About the position
At PEN Youth, we ignite hope by providing support and safe spaces for inner-city youth. The Youth are divided into three groups (Primary School, High School, and Young Adults), and we are focused on age-appropriate services. These programmes offer education support, mentorship and life skills, creative arts, and work-readiness and entrepreneurship development to empower young people to become responsible and innovative citizens. A key focus for the primary school programme is English and Mathematics. The programme is situated in Sunnyside, Pretoria.
Your:
- Bachelor of Education degree
- At least 3 - 5 years’ experience in a teaching environment.
- Management experience (Advantageous)
- Drivers’ license
- No criminal record
MAIN JOB ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversight of programme
- Implement strategy to ensure objectives and targets are reached.
- Understand the trends, progress towards goals, adjust where necessary and highlight concerns.
- Promoting the love for learning and ensuring that learning spaces are conducive for learning
- Continuous research, documentation and development of the Education curriculum in line with the Department of Basic Education and PEN’s standards.
- Guide staff and volunteers to reach agreed upon objectives and follow good standards
- Office administration
- Work closely with the administrator to provide accurate facts and figures timeously.
- Ensure the availability of compliance documentation
- Ensure there is sufficient evidence to demonstrate impact.
- Staff management
- Schedule and coordinate meetings.
- Be responsible for participating in staff recruitment, selection, orientation, training, coaching and disciplinary issues when they arise.
- Conduct bi-annual performance evaluations.
- Offer ongoing staff development and training.
- Enforce policies and procedures and report staff deviations to the Team Leader.
- Manage and report on staff leave.
- Ensure staff have the resources available to carry out daily duties and tasks.
- Stakeholder engagement
- Manage relationships with existing donors and partners by ensuring that roles and outcomes are understood.
- Provide professional and timely feedback on the impact of funds received.
- Source funding possibilities by marketing and networking with donors.
- Develop partnerships with like-minded organisations to share resources and improve the services delivered to PEN beneficiaries.

- Educational skills (Foundation and intermediate preferable)
