About the position
Key Responsibilities:
Workshop Operations
- Oversee daily workshop activities, ensuring repairs, servicing, and inspections are completed on time.
- Ensure all equipment is prepared and delivered in a safe, reliable, and clean condition.
- Allocate jobs, set priorities, and manage workflow for technicians and assistants.
- Conduct quality checks on repairs and maintenance before equipment is returned to the hire fleet.
Maintenance & Repairs
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults on a wide range of tools and plant equipment.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules.
- Ensure compliance with manufacturer guidelines and industry standards.
- Manage breakdowns efficiently to minimise downtime.
Staff Management
- Lead, supervise, and mentor workshop staff.
- Conduct performance evaluations and identify training needs.
- Enforce safety protocols and maintain a clean, organised work environment.
Stock & Asset Control
- Manage parts inventory, consumables, and workshop materials.
- Monitor and report equipment condition, repair costs, and parts usage.
- Ensure accurate recording of all workshop activity and service logs.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Enforce strict adherence to safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure all equipment meets legal and operational safety requirements.
- Conduct regular toolbox talks and safety training.
Customer Service Support
- Assist with technical advice for internal teams and customers.
- Investigate and report on equipment failures or repeat breakdowns.
- Support site teams with urgent repairs or technical guidance.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Trade Test Certificate (Diesel Mechanic, Petrol Mechanic, or Fitter) - preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in the tool/plant hire, construction equipment, or mechanical maintenance sector.
- Experience supervising or managing workshop teams.
- Strong knowledge of small tools, generators, compressors, pumps, compaction equipment, and plant machinery.

- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage deadlines and prioritise multiple tasks.
- Computer literacy (job cards, asset management systems, email).
- Strong communication and reporting skills.
