Job Title: Workshop Assistant
Purpose:
providing support and assistance in various tasks within a workshop or industrial setting, like supporting the efficient functioning of workshops by maintaining a safe working environment, and contributing to the overall success of workshop activities.
Key Responsibility:
- Equipment Setup and Maintenance: Workshop Assistants help in setting up equipment and machinery for workshops, experiments, or demonstrations. They also assist in maintaining and cleaning equipment to ensure it operates smoothly and safely.
- Material Handling and Inventory Management: They assist in handling materials, tools, and supplies required for workshop activities. This includes organizing and managing inventory, replenishing supplies, and ensuring that materials are readily available when needed.
- Assisting Workshop Instructors or Technicians: Workshop Assistants support workshop instructors or technicians in conducting practical sessions, experiments, or demonstrations. They may assist in demonstrating techniques, providing technical support to participants, and troubleshooting equipment issues.
- Safety Compliance: Workshop Assistants adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment. They ensure that safety equipment is used properly, hazardous materials are handled safely, and workshop areas are kept clean and free of hazards.
- Basic Repairs and Maintenance: They may perform basic repairs and maintenance tasks on equipment and machinery under the guidance of senior technicians or instructors. This could involve tasks like replacing parts, lubricating machinery, or tightening bolts and screws.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: Workshop Assistants assist in documenting workshop activities, such as attendance records, equipment usage logs, and incident reports. They may also help in compiling data or information for reports and presentations.
- Assisting Participants or Customers: In workshops that cater to external participants or customers, Workshop Assistants may provide assistance and guidance to participants. This could involve helping them with equipment setup, providing instructions, or addressing their inquiries and concerns.
- Administrative Support: They may provide administrative support to workshop coordinators or supervisors, such as scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, responding to emails, and organizing paperwork.
- Learning and Development: Workshop Assistants use their role as an opportunity for learning and skill development. They may receive training on workshop procedures, equipment operation, safety practices, and relevant technical skills to enhance their capabilities.
- Team Collaboration: They collaborate with other workshop staff, instructors, technicians, and administrative personnel to ensure smooth workshop operations. This includes communicating effectively, coordinating tasks, and assisting colleagues as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric (Preferably from a technical school)
- Technical knowledge and basic experience
- at least 2-3 years commercial workshorp experience.
