Our client, an established organisation within the building materials and distribution industry, is seeking a hands-on and highly organised Warehouse Supervisor to manage the day-to-day operations of their George warehouse.
The successful candidate will be responsible for receiving, storing, picking, and dispatching stock, maintaining accurate inventory records, coordinating temporary labour when required, assisting customers, and ensuring that the warehouse operates safely and efficiently.
This is a hands-on and largely independent role, with remote management support. The successful candidate must be comfortable taking ownership of the branch's daily operations and working with minimal direct supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the George warehouse.
  • Act as the on-site representative for the organisation and ensure the warehouse, stock, and equipment are secure.
  • Open, secure, and close the site as required.
  • Manage own workload, priorities, and time to ensure receiving, dispatch, and delivery commitments are met.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Warehouse Manager regarding operations, stock, issues, and resource requirements.
  • Escalate operational, stock, safety, customer, and security issues promptly.
  • Assess operational requirements and request temporary labour resources when required.
  • Brief, allocate, and supervise temporary labour resources according to operational requirements.
  • Conduct safety briefings and ensure temporary staff are correctly equipped with required PPE.
  • Monitor the productivity, quality, attendance, and conduct of temporary workers.
  • Verify attendance records and hours worked for temporary labour.
  • Maintain accurate records of temporary labour usage and costs.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls and assist customers professionally.
  • Attend to walk-in customers and collections, assisting with product and stock availability enquiries.
  • Provide internal sales support by checking stock availability and lead times.
  • Assist with quotations and orders within delegated authority.
  • Support the Projects and Sales teams with stock allocation, order coordination, staging, and dispatch.
  • Coordinate orders, deliveries, and collections with internal and external suppliers and transporters.
  • Follow up on outstanding orders and back-orders and communicate expected availability.
  • Receive incoming stock, including local supplier deliveries, imports, containers, and inter-branch transfers.
  • Verify quantities, product codes, lengths, colours, and other stock details against purchase orders, delivery notes, and packing lists.
  • Inspect received stock for damage, defects, shortages, and over-deliveries.
  • Pick, check, pack, and stage customer orders, transfers, and collections accurately.
  • Assist with the safe loading and off-loading of vehicles and containers.
  • Ensure long-length decking, cladding, and other materials are handled and secured correctly to prevent damage.
  • Ensure receiving, dispatch, transfer, and stock documentation is completed accurately.
  • Maintain stock accuracy through correct bin management, FIFO practices, put-away, and picking procedures.
  • Conduct cycle counts and periodic stock takes and investigate stock variances.
  • Manage slow-moving, damaged, offcut, and returned stock according to company procedures.
  • Monitor stock levels and identify replenishment and storage requirements.
  • Ensure warehouse layouts, racking, and bin locations remain organised and accurately reflected on the system.
  • Provide regular reporting on receipts, dispatches, outstanding orders, stock accuracy, labour usage, and discrepancies.
  • Support continuous improvement of warehouse processes and SOPs.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and warehouse organisation.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and company procedures.
  • Conduct routine safety checks and toolbox talks where required.
  • Ensure materials-handling equipment is operated only by authorised and appropriately licensed employees.
  • Report incidents, near-misses, damages, and unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Perform any other warehouse, operational, customer service, or administrative duties as required.

Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent.
  • A qualification in Warehousing, Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related field will be advantageous.
  • Minimum 3–5 years' warehouse experience.
  • At least 1–2 years' experience in a supervisory or team-leader role.
  • Proven experience in receiving, dispatch, stock control, and warehouse operations.
  • Experience within a building materials, hardware, construction products, or distribution environment will be highly advantageous.
  • Experience working independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Experience supervising temporary, contract, or labour broker staff will be advantageous.
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP and/or inventory management systems.
  • Experience with warehouse documentation, stock control, and inventory reporting.
  • Customer service, counter sales, or internal sales experience will be advantageous.
  • Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Valid forklift operator's licence will be advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in a hands-on warehouse environment.

What We Are Looking For
We are looking for a hands-on, reliable, and self-motivated Warehouse Supervisor who is comfortable taking full responsibility for the day-to-day running of a warehouse in George.
The ideal candidate must be able to work independently, manage stock accurately, coordinate receiving and dispatch activities, assist customers, and supervise temporary labour when required.
This position will suit someone who is proactive, trustworthy, organised, and able to make sound decisions without constant supervision. Experience within the building materials, hardware, construction products, or distribution industry will be highly advantageous.
