Our client is seeking an experienced and hands-on Warehouse Supervisor to take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of their George warehouse. The successful candidate will work independently as the sole permanent employee on site, with remote support and oversight from the Warehouse Manager based in Gqeberha.
The role combines warehouse supervision, stock control, receiving and dispatch, customer support, internal sales assistance, and temporary labour supervision. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, reliable, organised, and comfortable working independently in a smaller branch environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the George warehouse, including opening and securing the site, managing stock and equipment, receiving, picking, packing, dispatch, collections, and deliveries.
- Receive, inspect, pick, check, pack, and dispatch stock accurately, ensuring quantities, product codes, lengths, colours, and documentation are correct and discrepancies are reported.
- Maintain accurate stock control through bin management, FIFO, cycle counts, stock takes, variance investigations, and management of damaged, returned, slow-moving, and offcut stock.
- Plan and supervise temporary labour resources according to operational requirements, including induction, safety briefings, work allocation, performance monitoring, attendance verification, and labour cost records.
- Act as the first point of contact for the branch, assisting walk-in customers and telephone enquiries and providing support with product information, stock availability, lead times, orders, collections, and deliveries.
- Support internal sales and Projects teams with stock allocation, order coordination, staging, and dispatch of project orders.
- Coordinate orders, deliveries, collections, and transfers with internal departments, other branches, suppliers, and transporters.
- Ensure warehouse layout, racking, bin locations, housekeeping, and stock storage are maintained to a high standard.
- Provide daily and weekly reports on stock, receipts, dispatches, outstanding orders, discrepancies, and temporary labour usage.
- Escalate operational, stock, customer, security, and safety issues to the Warehouse Manager when required.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, PPE requirements, lone-working procedures, and warehouse safety standards.
- Ensure high-risk activities are not undertaken alone and that appropriate assistance is arranged for container offloading, heavy or long-length stock handling, forklift operations, and other high-risk tasks.
- Conduct routine safety checks and toolbox talks and report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Assist with continuous improvement of warehouse processes and standard operating procedures.
