About the position

SPATIAL PLANNING AND ENVIRONMENT - ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

VISITOR CONTROLLER

BASIC SALARY: R198 222 PER ANNUM - REF NO: SPE 30/25 - VARIOUS LOCATIONS

Requirements:

  • Grade 10 (NQF level 2), Grade 12 would be advantageous
  • Minimum one (1) year's relevant experience at a Nature Reserve or similar environment. A second year would be advantageous
  • Must be proficient at basic arithmetic
  • Must be bilingual in two of three official languages of the Eastern and Western Cape (Afrikaans/ English/ isiXhosa)
  • Firefighting experience
  • Computer literate in MS Office, MS Excel, Microsoft Outlook
  • Must be physically fit
  • Prepared to work on a work schedule, including weekends and public holidays
  • Experience in point-of-sale and/or till operation, stock control would be highly advantageous
  • Experience in dealing with the public would be advantageous
  • Additional courses such as a First Aid certificate would be advantageous
  • A valid Code EB/C1 driver's licence and a Professional Driver's Permit (PrDP) will serve as an added advantage.

Key performance areas:

  • Access control and visitor management
  • Operating point-of-sale and till and receiving activity fees and reconciling revenue according to the tariff structure and procedures
  • Issue entrance permits and provide general visitor information and answer basic queries about the reserve
  • Provide visitor and financial statistics when required for reporting
  • Providing visitors with information about the reserve and answering queries
  • Rendering first aid and reporting environmental or security emergencies to the relevant agencies
  • Booking, opening and closing of reserve visitor facilities
  • Assisting with general duties such as field work, firefighting and transportation of goods and staff; and
  • Working over weekends and public holidays according to a roster.
