About the position
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Veterinarian with a strong background in commercial poultry production to join a leading agricultural operation in KwaZulu Natal. This role is ideal for a veterinary professional who is passionate about flock health, disease prevention, biosecurity, and improving production performance within a large-scale poultry environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and maintain flock health across commercial poultry operations.
- Develop and implement disease prevention, vaccination, and biosecurity programmes.
- Investigate, diagnose, and manage poultry health concerns and disease outbreaks.
- Provide veterinary guidance on production performance, animal welfare, and nutrition.
- Analyse production and health data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
- Ensure compliance with veterinary legislation, food safety, and animal welfare standards.
- Collaborate with production, laboratory, and farm management teams.
- Maintain accurate veterinary records and prepare technical reports.
Minimum Requirements:
- Veterinary Degree (BVSc or equivalent) essential.
- Master's Degree or PhD will be advantageous.
- Postgraduate qualification in Poultry Diseases and Production will be advantageous.
- Minimum of 3-5 years' experience within commercial poultry production.
- Registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).
- Sound knowledge of poultry health, biosecurity, and disease management.
- Experience in production performance monitoring and flock health programmes.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
