About the position
Our client in the Pharmaceutical and Medical/Healthcare sector is seeking a Unit Manager to lead operations within a theatre setting. The role involves overseeing surgical theatre staff and day-to-day activities, while providing clinical leadership, managing resources effectively, and ensuring high standards of patient care within the operating environment
Minimum Requirements:
- Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse
- Post-basic qualification in Operating Theatre Technique
- Minimum of 5 years’ operational experience in a theatre environment
- Scrub experience in Cardiothoracic, Neurosurgery, and/or Ophthalmology (advantageous)
- Previous experience in a leadership or management role (advantageous)
- Sound knowledge of legislative, Occupational Health and Safety regulations
- Valid driver’s licence with flexibility to travel and work after hours (own transport required)
- Willingness to work flexible hours and participate in an after-hours roster
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide both operational and administrative leadership within the theatre
- Manage and support theatre staff, ensuring effective communication and coordination with surgeons
- Enforce compliance with hospital policies, labour legislation, and disciplinary procedures
- Oversee staff planning, recruitment, and selection
- Resolve daily operational challenges and patient-related concerns
- Ensure proper stock and equipment management, including usage tracking and ordering
- Monitor accurate billing for theatre stock
- Maintain infection control protocols and uphold health and safety standards
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of the theatre environment
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports
- Lead ad hoc projects and assist in implementing performance improvement strategies
