About the position
An opportunity is available in Westville for an experienced nursing leader to manage a Paediatric Unit and help create a supportive, high-quality environment for children and their families. The successful candidate will combine strong clinical leadership with the ability to develop and empower a collaborative nursing team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the overall clinical and operational functioning of the Paediatric Unit.
- Provide strong clinical leadership and ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.
- Lead, support and develop the nursing team to achieve departmental and organisational objectives.
- Foster a participative and collaborative working environment within the unit.
- Promote a neuro-developmentally supportive environment for premature and sick newborn infants.
- Monitor nursing standards, clinical outcomes and compliance with policies and procedures.
- Identify staff development needs and support ongoing training and competency development.
- Ensure effective staffing, resource utilisation and operational planning.
- Monitor and address clinical risks, incidents and quality concerns within the unit.
- Promote compliance with relevant legislation, professional standards, codes of ethics and competency requirements.
- Work collaboratively with doctors, multidisciplinary teams, patients and families.
- Manage conflict and operational challenges effectively while maintaining positive team relationships.
- Participate in quality improvement and clinical governance initiatives.
Minimum Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Nursing with at least 5 years' post-registration experience.
- Proven leadership and/or people-management experience within a healthcare environment.
- Demonstrated clinical competence within the relevant area of specialisation.
- Postgraduate Management or Education qualification and relevant experience will be advantageous.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Current registration with SANC.
- Participative and collaborative management style.
- Demonstrated capacity to lead, foster and develop a neuro-developmentally supportive environment that actively promotes neurodevelopment in premature and sick newborn infants.
- Effective leadership skills, including highly developed communication, problem-solving, conflict-resolution and negotiation skills.
- Updated knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, industrial relations, standards, codes, ethics and competency standards.
- Computer proficiency.
- Valid driver's licence and ability to travel.
- Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage a changing clinical environment.
