Transport Service Provider (Subcontractor) Management
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Transport Service Provider (Subcontractor) Management
- Maintain and update the TSP/vendor database, ensuring all documentation, compliance certifications, and onboarding information remain current
- Monitor subcontractor fleet availability, roadworthiness, licensing, and maintenance cycles
- Oversee route allocations, load scheduling, and daily execution monitoring
- Ensure subcontractors adhere to company service level standards, business rules, and operational processes
- Manage communication between subcontractors and internal teams to ensure smooth operations and timely escalation of issues
- Conduct regular performance reviews of subcontractors based on KPIs (on-time arrivals, communication, quality of service, turnaround performance, and exception handling)
Compliance, Safety & Risk Management
- Oversee health and safety compliance for all subcontractors in line with legislative and company requirements
- Ensure compliance with transport regulations, company policies, and client contractual requirements
Commercial & Business Development Support
- Contribute to identifying, sourcing, and onboarding new subcontractors to grow capacity and improve service coverage
- Support the commercial team in seeking new business opportunities and participating in proposal inputs
- Build and maintain strong relationships with both transport partners and customers to support operational and commercial growth
- Provide market insight on rates, capacity availability, transport cost drivers, and performance trends
System and Technology Management
- Leverage technology to manage subcontractor relationships, ensuring performance tracking, streamlined communication, and compliance with project timelines and deliverables
- Integrate vehicle tracking systems to monitor subcontractor fleets in real time, utilising driver applications for accurate updates, route optimisation, and efficient POD management
- Manage centralised data through a custom-built transport management system to enhance supply chain visibility, improve information flow, and reduce invoicing cycle times
- Utilise digital tools for contract management, automated reporting, and real-time collaboration to drive efficiency across all subcontractor engagements
Operational Coordination & Administration
- Monitor service providers communication efficiency, responsiveness, and overall professionalism
- Prepare operational reports, dashboards, KPI summaries, and incident/claim logs
- Assist with route planning optimisation, special project rollouts, and escalation management
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across subcontractor processes
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED
- Grade 12 / Matric (essential)
- Degree/Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or Transport Management (advantageous but not essential)
- Minimum 23 years experience in transport operations, subcontractor management, fleet coordination, or logistics control (advantageous)
- Experience across multiple logistics sectors (general freight, tankers, containers, tippers, abnormals, and cross-border transport) advantageous
- Understanding of transport legislation, safety requirements, and general logistics workflows
