About the position
Background
- Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited ("WHC") is a wholly-owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences
- WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives.
- In addition, WHC offers a range of products and services to Academics
Main purpose of the job:
- Design, develop, and manage CPD-accredited clinical and health-related training programmes in a research or healthcare environment
Location:
- WHC, 31 Princess of Wales Terrace, Parktown, Johannesburg
Key performance areas:
- Design, develop, and implement learning materials for clinical research, public health, and medical training, with a focus on adult learners
- Serve as the instructional design lead, translating complex clinical and health content into accessible, outcomes-based learning
- Develop and maintain online and blended learning courses on Moodle LMS, including quizzes, learning pathways, and certification tools
- Collaborate with medical, clinical, and research SMEs to ensure the accuracy and relevance of training content
- Lead the development of CPD-accredited programmes, ensuring compliance with national and professional body requirements (e.g. HPCSA, SANC)
- Administer and manage course delivery and user support on Moodle, including troubleshooting and analytics tracking
- Coordinate training schedules, enrolments, evaluations, and completion reporting across different projects and stakeholder groups
- Ensure all content aligns with ethical, regulatory, and SOP standards, including GCP, ICH E6(R3), SA GCP, and NDoH 2024
Required minimum education and training:
- Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Health Sciences, Clinical Research, or a related field
- Postgraduate qualifications in Clinical Education, Public Health, or Health Professions Education are an advantage
Required minimum work experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in training and instructional design, ideally in a healthcare, clinical research, or public health setting
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
- Demonstrated experience using Moodle LMS, including course setup, activity tracking, and certification
- Strong knowledge of e-learning development tools (e.g. H5P, Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate)
- Experience developing and managing CPD-accredited training
- Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills
- Sound understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies (e.g. ADDIE, SAM)
- Training design in clinical trial operations, ethics, or healthcare compliance
- Familiarity with research environments, SOPs, and training aligned with regulatory and audit standards
- Experience working with CPD providers, accreditation submissions, and quality assurance processes
- Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS and SCORM
- Knowledge of South African or international health research and education standards
