About the position
We are currently seeking an experienced Trade Spend Controller to join our fast-growing FMCG company in the Cereals & Snacks Business in South Africa. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting and commercial understanding abilities, excellent communication skills, and a proven track record of P&L and balance sheet reconciliations. As Trade Spend Controller, you will be part of a dynamic team with experience in Commercial Finance supporting Sales.
As Trade Spend Controller, you will be in a dynamic commercial environment, playing a crucial role in supporting commercial projects, including the implementation and roll-out of a new Trade Promotion Management (TPM) system to track and analyse trade spending budgets by customer and category.
Note: 6 month contract
Duties & Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Trade Spend Controller to ensure robust controls and correct accounting procedures are adhered to.
- Challenge the status quo and proactively identify trade spending efficiencies, optimizing resource allocation to maximize ROI.
- Assist in analysing trade spend budgets ($30M annual spend) and collaborate with Sales to ensure monthly spends and underlying volume align with commitments.
- Be part of commercial projects, including the implementation and roll-out of a new TPM system to track and analyse trade spending budgets by customer and category.
- Collaborate with Sales to drive the commercial agenda and actively engage with the Commercial Finance Manager.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting from reconciliation.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations, company policies, and procedures.
- Manage and monitor the financial activities of key customers, ensuring compliance with balance provisions.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in finance, preferably within the FMCG industry.
- Excellent understanding of trade promotion management, including the design and implementation of TPM systems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence decision-making at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and adapt to change.
