About the position

Introduction

The Trade Marketing Analyst is responsible for providing analytical, commercial and category support that enables profitable sales growth across retail channels. The role analyses market, customer and consumer data to identify opportunities, improve promotional effectiveness, optimize product assortment and support strategic decision-making.

Working closely with Sales, Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain and Key Account Managers, the incumbent will monitor business performance, generate actionable insights and assist with trade initiatives that improve market share, profitability and customer satisfaction.

Duties & Responsibilities

Trade & Commercial Analysis

  • Analyse sales, market share and customer performance trends.
  • Produce weekly, monthly and quarterly commercial performance reports.
  • Develop dashboards and scorecards to support business decisions.
  • Monitor KPIs and recommend corrective actions where required.
  • Conduct post-promotion evaluations and ROI analysis.
  • Provide insights into category performance and retailer trends.

Category & Market Analysis
  • Analyse consumer behaviour, market trends and competitor activity.
  • Identify growth opportunities by customer, category and channel.
  • Monitor pricing, distribution and promotional effectiveness.
  • Recommend assortment improvements based on sales and market data.
  • Support new product launches through market analysis.
  • Category & Market Analysis

    Budget & Financial Support
    • Assist in annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
    • Monitor promotional spend against approved budgets.
    • Support preparation of business plans and commercial presentations.
    • Analyse profitability by customer, category and SKU.
    • Track return on investment for marketing and trade initiatives.

    Pricing & Promotional Management
    • Analyse pricing strategies across retail customers.
    • Support development of promotional calendars and promotional grids.
    • Evaluate promotional effectiveness and recommend improvements.
    • Monitor competitor pricing and promotional activities.
    • Assist in price increase implementation and customer communication.
    • Retail Listing & Customer Support
      • Support new product listings with national retail customers.
      • Coordinate listing documentation and pricing submissions.
      • Maintain customer product information and promotional databases.
      • Support e-commerce listings and online retailer requirements.
      • Assist Key Account Managers with customer presentations and reports.

      Supplier & Stakeholder Management
      • Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders.
      • Liaise with suppliers regarding category initiatives.
      • Work closely with Manufacturing and Quality teams to resolve customer issues.
      • Support cross-functional projects across Commercial, Supply Chain and Finance.

      Reporting & Business Intelligence
      • Maintain reporting accuracy and data integrity.
      • Develop automated Excel and Power BI reports where applicable.
      • Interpret large data sets and convert findings into commercial recommendations.
      • Present findings to management and customer teams.

      Continuous Improvement
      • Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes.
      • Recommend process efficiencies and automation.
      • Contribute to commercial best practices and data governance.


Desired Experience & Qualification

Formal Education

Appropriate Marketing/ bachelor's degree in business

Experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience within FMCG, Retail or Consumer Goods.
  • Experience working with national retail chains.
  • Experience analysing sales and market data.
  • Experience supporting category management or trade marketing.
  • Experience working with promotions and pricing.

Experience preparing commercial reports and presentations.
