Tier 1 / 2 Desktop Technician (JHB | CPT)

About the position

ENVIRONMENT:

A dynamic provider of IT Connectivity Solutions is seeking a motivated Tier 1 and Tier 2 Desktop Technician to provide hands-on onsite support across desktops, network switches, printers, and wireless access points (APs). This role will ensure smooth IT operations by troubleshooting issues, maintaining equipment, and accurately documenting faults and resolutions.

DUTIES:

• Provide onsite support for desktops, laptops, printers, network switches, and APs.
• Perform Layer 1 tasks, including cabling, patching, and hardware installation.
• Carry out Layer 2 support, including switch configuration, VLAN checks, and connectivity troubleshooting.
• Diagnose, resolve, and document hardware, software, and network faults.
• Escalate complex issues to senior engineers or vendors when required.
• Maintain detailed and accurate fault logs, asset documentation, and service reports.
• Assist with the deployment of new equipment, upgrades, and site rollouts.
• Ensure adherence to IT policies, standards, and security practices.

REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications & Skills:

• Proven experience as a Desktop Support or Field Technician.
• Solid understanding of Layer 1 (cabling, hardware) and Layer 2 (switching, VLANs) concepts.
• Experience supporting desktops, printers, switches, and wireless access points.
• Familiarity with documentation practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

• IT certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or CCNA.
• Experience in support role.

ATTRIBUTES:

• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
