JOB DESCRIPTION
The opportunity:
As a Laboratory Supervisor Technician, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the excellence and integrity of our Textile Testing Capability. You will be responsible for conducting various tests, analysing results, and collaborating with a team of experts to enhance our Textile Testing competence. Maintaining alignment between our JHB and CPT with reference to ISO test methods and methodologies. The role of a Laboratory Supervisor is to oversee the daily operations of a textile testing laboratory, ensuring that all testing is carried out accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards and customer requirements. This position combines technical knowledge of textiles with leadership and administrative responsibilities.
This role reports to the TFG Laboratory Manager

Key Responsibilities:
1. Laboratory Operations Management
- Supervise the workflow of textile testing (e.g. physical, chemical, colour fastness, dimensional stability).
- Allocate tasks and manage priorities to ensure timely delivery of test results.
- Ensure that equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
2. Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure all testing complies with international and local standards (e.g. ISO, AATCC, SANS).
- Review and validate test reports before release.
- Monitor accuracy and reliability of test results through internal quality control procedures.
3. Staff Supervision & Training
- Manage laboratory technicians and assistants.
- Provide training on new methods, safety, and quality standards.
- Conduct performance reviews and identify development needs.
4. Health & Safety
- Ensure adherence to health and safety protocols in the lab environment.
- Conduct risk assessments and safety training for lab staff.
5. Client Interaction & Reporting
- Communicate with internal teams or clients regarding testing requirements, methods, and outcomes.
- Troubleshoot any issues with sample quality or testing instructions
6. Method Development & Continuous Improvement
- Assist in the development or optimization of testing procedures.
- Stay updated with advances in textile testing technologies and standards.
Requirements - Degree/Diploma in Textile Technology, Chemistry, or related field.
- Strong understanding of textile materials and test methods.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in Textile Laboratory Testing required
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
