Technician - SA Connect at Sentech

About the position

Umtata Satellite Operations seeks the services of a qualified technicians to do installation and maintenance of transmitter technologies infrastructure on Sentech sites and clients premises

The prospective applicant should have the following:

• An appropriate S4 diploma with a good theoretical knowledge of electronics or a 3yr IT relevant tertiary education
• A code 08 (EB) driver's license

Experience as a technician in the following requirements:

• Excellent networking implementation and troubleshooting skills
• Digital compression/ encryption systems
• VSAT installations and commissioning
• Telemetry, computer and data radio systems
• Be self-motivated and take responsibility for his/her career development in Sentech.
• Reside within 20km radius from the OC

The job responsibilities include the following:

• Manage, monitor and troubleshoot the infrastructure environment
• Install, configure and maintain the broadband network
• Setup and maintain backup protocols for all infrastructure and clients
• Perform System Management functions including fault management and resolution
• Logical security management and systems
• Maintain and ensure systems availability
• Optimize technical performance of systems
• Provide daily stats and report on the status of the backup
• Ensure the successful testing of the backup by performing restores as required
• Provide inputs to audit requirements
• Provide system health check and reports
• Initiate procurement process where applicable
• Maintain equipment and infrastructure on Sentech sites and client's premises
• Install and commission equipment and infrastructure on Sentech sites and client's premises
• Maintain operational information and finance system
• Produce technical reports when required
• Provide leadership for and control a technical team
• Play an active role in the improvement of facilities, standards and development of systems
• Function as part of a technical team
• Take responsibility for the training, mentoring and coaching of other team members
• Perform standby duties as required by the OC
• Be prepared to perform Standby duties on a rotational basis and be available for call outs

in the events of emergencies

• Be prepared to drive long distances and work long hours when required
• Be prepared to work away from home on a regular basis
• Ability and willingness to climb masts of up to 300

Network Management Systems competency
Knowledge and understanding of network elements / manage objects, Microsoft and Unix,
programming; architecture and networking (LAN, WAN, routers, switchers); different
communication protocols; web technologies, databases, and network security.

Network monitoring and configuration
Knowledge and understanding of telecommunications and broadcasting technologies to effectively
operate the network; analysis of network; stakeholder communication; troubleshooting of multimedia applications; ability to manage faults, configuration, performance, accounting, and security (FCAPS model).

VSAT competency
Knowledge and skill to maintain and support satellite network and transmission technologies.

ACCESS RADIO MAINTENANCE:
The incumbent of this position will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of radio access networks technologies utilizing point to point, point to multi-point and other related radio access technologies.
