About the position
Our Client is looking for a trailer technician to perform services, maintenance, repairs and inspections on Trailers. Repairs to minimise downtime and to reduce accident risks. This role also ensures compliance to housekeeping and Health and safety rules.
Responsibilities
- Servicing, repair and maintain on commercial trailers to ensure they are safe and roadworthy.
- Inspect trailers to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
- Diagnose and repair ABS, EBS and air brake system faults.
- Conduct brake testing following repairs and overhauls.
- Repair or replace wheel bearings, brake components, suspension parts and air systems.
- Inspect chassis, cross members, kingpins, landing legs, floors and trailer structures.
- Service and repair BPW and Hendred axle systems.
- Reprogram and adjust trailer modulators where required.
- Carry out welding and structural trailer repairs.
- Respond to breakdowns and emergency call-outs.
- Complete job cards, inspection reports and maintenance records.
- Ensure compliance with workshop safety and SHEQ standards.
- Maintain workshop housekeeping and recommend preventative maintenance
- Fitting, repair and replacement of tyres on commercial vehicles and Heavy Goods Vehicles.
- Wheel removal, balancing and torquing to specification.
- Inspection of tyres for wear, damage and compliance.
- Mobile/roadside fitting where required.
- Accurate records of work carried out.
- Compliance with all Health & Safety procedures.
Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a Trailer Technician
- WABCO Air Brake Certificate or extensive proven experience working on WABCO air brake systems.
- Extensive experience working on: o Side Tippers o Interlink Trailers
- Strong knowledge of: o ABS and EBS braking systems o Air brake systems o Mechanical and air suspension systems o BPW Eco, Eco+ and Eco2 axles o Henred axle systems
- Experience in trailer welding and structural repairs.
- Ability to diagnose and repair ABS/EBS faults.
- Experience replacing bearings, brake linings, slack adjusters and air boosters.
- Valid Code 08 driver's licence.
- Willingness to attend breakdowns and perform onsite repairs when required.
- Booking of services on a daily basis.
