About the position

Our client, South African Sugar Association (SASA) has a permanent opportunity available for a Technical Training Officer (C4) based attheir Mtunzini Campus.


The Shukela Training Centre (STC) is a well-regarded training institution established about 50 years ago. The STC delivers high quality agricultural and engineering training to learners within the sugar industry inside and outside South Africa as well as to other non-sugar industries.

The Shukela Training Centre has a permanent employment opportunity for a Technical Training Officer in the Agricultural Department to be based at the STC Mtunzini Campus (KZN North Coast). Mtunzini Campus is situated on a sugarcane farm about 3 Km from the Mtunzini Tool Plaza. The incumbent will be provided free accommodation on campus.

Key performance areas of this position include:

Reporting to the Agricultural Training Manager, the successful incumbent will be responsible for:

• Providing specialized workshop-based engineering skills training
• This includes training on Elementary Tractor Mechanics, Arc Welding and Gas Cutting with CO2 and Basic Workshop Skills
• In addition to offering engineering related training the incumbent will also be responsible for the overall running and maintenance of the Mtunzini Campus which has residences with a capacity to accommodate 15 to 20 learners as well as the canteen
• This includes ensuring that the campus has sufficient water supply and ordering this from King Cetshwayo Municipality before it gets depleted, ensuring disposal of waste from the bins across the campus, utilizing a company vehicle to purchase food for resident learners, raising Requests for Quotations (RFQs) for all consumables and non-consumables as budgeted for the financial year, overall management of Mtunzini Campus budget as well as general welfare of learners training at the campus
• Assisting with training done on farms away from Mtunzini Campus as and when the need arises
• Participating in activities meant to market the STC like the Career Summits, Expos and Open Days, organized by the STC and/or other external stakeholders

The following are key requirements:

• A trade tested welder with a minimum of 3 years work experience in the trade and/or training in the trade, post trade test
• A valid driver's license
• Possession of Facilitator and Assessor Certificate
• Ability to work with Microsoft Office

Of added advantage:

• Experience in tractor or diesel mechanics or willingness to be trained on these
• Possession of a valid passport
