About the position
A leading supplier of tungsten carbide cutting tools and tooling solutions to the South African manufacturing industry is seeking a technically minded and self-driven Technical Sales Engineer in Pretoria to join their team. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this role offers an exciting opportunity for a sales professional with strong machining and tooling knowledge to work closely with engineering and manufacturing companies across Pretoria and the North West Province.
The successful candidate will assist customers in optimising machining processes to improve productivity, tool life, and cost efficiency.
Responsibilities:
Sales & Business Development:
- Grow sales within the Pretoria and North West Province manufacturing sector.
- Identify and develop new customer accounts and business opportunities.
- Manage and expand an existing customer portfolio through strong relationship management.
- Develop and execute strategic sales plans to achieve and exceed sales targets.
- Maintain accurate sales activity, opportunity, and customer records within the CRM system.
- Prepare sales forecasts, pipeline reports, and activity reports.
Technical Support & Tooling Solutions:
- Analyse customer machining processes and recommend suitable tooling improvements and solutions.
- Identify opportunities for process optimisation and improved machining performance.
- Select appropriate tooling solutions and conduct on-site tooling tests and trials.
- Demonstrate measurable improvements in tool life, machining cycle times, cost per component.
Technical Knowledge & Internal Collaboration:
- Maintain strong technical knowledge of cutting tool technology, machining applications, and industry trends.
- Collaborate closely with Internal Sales, Technical Applications, and other departments to ensure optimal customer support and service delivery.
Requirements:
- Practical experience working with CNC machines, mills, or lathes.
- Strong understanding of cutting tools, machining processes, and machining applications.
- Ability to analyse machining challenges and recommend effective tooling solutions.
- Valid driver's licence.
Advantageous:
- Previous technical sales experience within the carbide tooling industry.
- Exposure to CNC programming and/or machining process optimisation.
- Existing relationships within the manufacturing or engineering sectors.
