Our client who offers a wide range of vehicle solutions is looking for an experienced Technical Lead to join their dynamic team in Camperdown, KwaZulu - Natal.
Overview of the position
The Technical Lead will be responsible for the operation, performance, and optimisation of the assembly line, equipment, and processes. This role ensures that tooling, work instructions, and production methods meet OEM specifications, supports problem-solving and breakdown resolution, manages engineering changes and new model introductions, and drives efficiency improvements to achieve stable, repeatable, and high-quality production.
Responsibilities include but will not be limited to:
- Own and maintain assembly line technical processes and systems.
- Ensure that all tooling, fixtures, and equipment meet OEM specifications and remain well-maintained, reliable and compliant with local regulations where applicable.
- Own, develop, maintain and audit the application of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in accordance with OEM build instructions, including new model introductions.
- Review and provide timeous feedback of OEM build instructions and associated documentation.
- Ensure that the SAP MES/MRP system remains aligned to assembly operations in conjunction with SAP developers.
- Provide technical support for production issues and breakdowns.
- Integration of local supplies into assembly processes.
- Auditing of workstation management W.R.T cleanliness, parts clearing, part stock and tooling and equipment defect reporting and resolution.
- Lead process optimisation and line balancing activities.
- Provide input and support for logistics and production planning.
- Management and approval of OEM reports.
- Coordinate tooling and equipment maintenance strategy with production requirements.
- Support installation, commissioning, and ramp-up of new equipment.
- Manage technical training and upskilling of production teams.
- Drive continuous improvement in cycle time, yield, and rework reduction.
Requirements
- National diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Quality Management, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field.
- 10+ years in automotive assembly, process engineering, or line management.
- SKD/CKD assembly line technical experience (Advantageous).
- Government Certificate of Competency (GCC - Factories) (Advantageous).
- Demonstrable experience with lifting equipment, chassis jigs and riveting machines (Advantageous.)
