About the position

A professional and established managed IT solutions partner, operating in the Sandton business hub, is seeking a highly skilled Technical Consultant / L2 Support Engineer to join its core technical operations team. We deliver comprehensive, end-to-end IT infrastructure solutions and advanced support to businesses across South Africa. This role is designed for a methodical, experienced engineer ready to serve as a key resource in resolving complex technical challenges and maintaining secure, highly available client environments.

This is a strategic position that focuses on expert-level technical execution and problem resolution. You will be the primary contact for sophisticated technical escalations, directly ensuring the operational integrity and resilience of client server and network infrastructures.

Driving Technical Excellence: Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be accountable for a broad range of high-level technical duties, focused on solution deployment and systemic stability:

  • L2 Escalation and Support: Act as the 2nd line escalation point for technical issues from the helpdesk. Provide advanced troubleshooting and resolution for both remote and on-site support calls.

  • Infrastructure Design & Configuration: Expertly install, configure, and support all Microsoft server operating systems and core application software. Compile detailed server and networking configuration documentation for client sites.

  • Security & Risk Management: Proactively identify possible IT risks or complex technical problems and devise robust remediation strategies to secure client systems. Must maintain an IT security-focused approach.

  • Remote & On-Site Administration: Perform advanced remote administration of servers and networks. Conduct general hardware installation and troubleshooting on server and networking equipment.

  • Operational Coordination: Execute orders, manage service follow-ups, and coordinate repairs with external suppliers and service providers.

Essential Expertise and Qualifications:

  • Experience Foundation: At least 5 years of dedicated server support and maintenance experience is essential.

  • Certifications: Matriculation certificate is mandatory. An International MCSE / MCSA or equivalent certification is required, along with an A+, Server+, N+, or similar qualification.

  • Technical Mastery: Advanced knowledge of Active Directory, Office 365 configuration and administration, and networking/firewall technologies.

  • Systems & Continuity: Essential knowledge of backup solutions (Veeam and others), working knowledge of server hardware systems (RAID), TCP\IP networking, and experience configuring routers and wireless access points.

  • Core Skills: Excellent troubleshooting skills, excellent knowledge of Windows Event logs, and strong knowledge of hardware components (Servers and Networking).

  • Note: The role requires you to have your own reliable transport and the flexibility to work after hours on short notice when operational needs arise.

Remuneration and Professional Benefits:

  • Competitive Compensation: Cost to company (CTC) between R35,000 and R45,000, determined by qualifications, experience, and skill level.

  • Supportive Benefits: The company contributes 50% to your medical aid.

  • Operational Support: You will receive reimbursement for company travel and a company-provided laptop. Overtime work is compensated in the form of commission.
