Our client is seeking an experienced Technical Buyer to join their Procurement team. The successful candidate will be responsible for purchasing goods, materials, components, and services while ensuring the best combination of cost, quality, lead times, supplier performance, and SHE requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide procurement support to the relevant office/division in accordance with procurement procedures.
- Manage the Request for Quotation (RFQ) process for relevant categories.
- Participate in supplier selection and supplier performance reviews.
- Ensure goods and services are purchased at the best Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and contractual conditions.
- Negotiate with suppliers to achieve cost savings.
- Ensure purchased goods and services are in line with approved Purchase Requisitions (PRs).
- Purchase goods and services from approved vendors in accordance with vendor control procedures.
- Prepare accurate and compliant Purchase Orders (POs).
- Administer the ERP procurement system.
- Assist with sourcing products and services and evaluating new suppliers.
- Expedite orders and follow up with suppliers on outstanding deliveries.
- Monitor and report on outstanding purchase orders.
- Resolve contract and pricing queries.
- Maintain accurate procurement records and documentation.
- Maintain an approved supplier/vendor list.
- Act as an interface between suppliers and internal departments regarding purchasing requirements.
- Communicate any supply problems or delays that may impact business operations.
- Monitor market trends, supplier activity, and potential procurement risks and opportunities.
- Analyse existing and new costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
- Ensure all Purchase Orders are processed timeously through the company's ERP system.
- Ensure orders are approved by authorised signatories in accordance with delegated authority limits.
- Send approved Purchase Orders to suppliers and relevant internal stakeholders.
- Conduct supplier expediting and communicate potential delays to affected departments.
- Maintain professional relationships with suppliers.
- Ensure compliance with Group Contracts Management procedures.
- Meet departmental savings targets and other applicable KPIs.
- File and distribute procurement documentation accurately.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and ISO requirements.
- Perform other duties as required by the designated manager.
Minimum Requirements
- Relevant Manufacturing or Engineering Diploma/Degree preferred.
- Procurement, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management qualification at NQF Level 6, Diploma or Degree.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in Buying/Procurement.
- CIPS membership or qualification will be advantageous.
- Experience within a technical, manufacturing, engineering, or industrial procurement environment will be advantageous.
- Computer literate with strong Excel/Google Sheets, Word/Google Docs skills.
- Experience with ERP systems is essential/advantageous, particularly Oracle, JD Edwards or SAP.
- Strong numerical and analytical ability.
