About the Role
This Technical Business Development Engineer role bridges the gap between our technical and commercial functions, ensuring seamless coordination, accurate documentation, and strong client engagement. You will play a key part in supporting business growth by providing technical input, managing documentation, and maintaining alignment across engineering, integration, and business development teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical input and documentation support to the Business Development team when pursuing new opportunities
- Act as a liaison between technical teams and commercial stakeholders to ensure timely communication of programme updates and client requirements
- Participate in programme meetings to maintain awareness of project developments and support technical/commercial alignment
- Engage daily with engineering and integration teams to gather updates, enhance technical knowledge, and provide feedback to the Business Development function
- Assist in preparing and reviewing system costing documentation and commercial proposals (Microsoft Excel and internal tools)
- Draft, proofread, and review contracts, End User Certificates (EUCs), and other legal documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Coordinate and host client visits, including system demonstrations and facility tours
- Attend meetings with suppliers and external stakeholders to provide technical support and capture key information
- Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive positioning to support strategic decision-making
- Provide ad-hoc support to senior executives on business development-related tasks
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronic, or equivalent) - NQF level 8 or higher
- 0-5 years of experience in a technical, business development, or client-facing role. Experience in a start-up or entrepreneurial environment will be highly regarded.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to understand technical concepts and relay them accurately in a business context
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and maintain professional conduct with clients and suppliers
- Strong attention to detail in document review and data handling
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and solve problems in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with CRM systems and/or project management tools is advantageous
- Other requirements: Valid passport, own reliable transport, South African nationality
