Lead Mission-Critical Cloud Migrations
Are you an experienced infrastructure or cloud migration professional who thrives in fast-paced enterprise environments? We're looking for a highly organised Wave Owner to lead the successful execution of cloud migration waves, ensuring seamless server cutovers, stakeholder coordination, risk management, and post-migration support.
As the Wave Owner, you will own the end-to-end delivery of assigned migration waves, acting as the central point of accountability for planning, coordinating, executing, and successfully completing server migrations into the cloud.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Migration Planning & Coordination
- Own the end-to-end migration lifecycle for all servers within your assigned move group.
- Coordinate migration planning activities across infrastructure, application, and business teams.
- Engage with Platform Architecture (PA) teams to ensure solution designs are approved and outstanding issues are resolved.
- Mobilise migration execution teams to develop detailed cutover plans.
- Ensure completion of migration intake documentation and initiation of server replication activities.
- Schedule, facilitate, and lead cutover planning workshops and execution sessions.
- Coordinate migration execution and oversee post-cutover hypercare activities.
Cutover Planning & Execution
- Review, validate, and approve detailed cutover plans.
- Ensure technical execution aligns with approved solution designs.
- Manage cutover dependencies, timelines, and critical path activities.
- Drive successful migration execution while minimising operational disruption.
- Obtain formal sign-off for cutover plans, migration execution, and hypercare completion.
Stakeholder Management
Work closely with internal business and technical stakeholders to ensure all migration prerequisites are completed, including:
- Account vending
- Active Directory (AD) group creation
- Perimeter firewall requests and approvals
- DNS requests and implementation
- Infrastructure readiness activities
- Application-specific migration readiness
Build strong relationships with project managers, infrastructure engineers, architects, cloud specialists, and business representatives to ensure seamless delivery.
Risk, Governance & Reporting
- Track migration progress against agreed milestones and delivery schedules.
- Provide regular reporting on:
- Migration wave progress
- Server cutover status
- Migration success metrics
- Schedule adherence
- Forecasted completion
- Identify, assess, document, and escalate project risks and issues.
- Develop mitigation strategies and drive issue resolution.
- Maintain accurate risk and issue registers.
- Update migration heatmaps and governance dashboards.
Hypercare & Operational Transition
- Coordinate post-cutover hypercare activities.
- Facilitate rapid resolution of post-migration incidents.
- Work with technical teams to troubleshoot migration-related issues.
- Ensure smooth transition into operational support.
- Capture lessons learned and recommend continuous improvement opportunities.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve migration processes and cutover methodologies.
- Contribute to migration standards, governance, and best practices.
- Help drive repeatable and scalable cloud migration delivery processes.
RequirementsEssential
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience delivering enterprise infrastructure or cloud migration projects.
- Proven experience coordinating server migration and cutover activities within large enterprise environments.
- Strong understanding of cloud migration methodologies and migration lifecycles.
- Experience managing multiple workstreams, dependencies, and technical stakeholders.
- Knowledge of:
- Windows & Linux Server environments
- Active Directory
- DNS
- Firewalls
- Networking fundamentals
- Infrastructure services
- Strong project coordination and planning skills.
- Experience managing project risks, issues, governance, and reporting.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to perform under pressure within highly complex programmes.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with Azure cloud migration programmes.
- Exposure to AWS or hybrid cloud environments.
- Experience using migration tooling such as Azure Migrate, CloudEndure, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with ITIL Service Management principles.
- Experience working within large enterprise transformation programmes.
- Knowledge of Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies.
- Experience coordinating hypercare and operational handover activities.
