About the position
My client, a leading mining company, is looking for a Technical Advisor to join their team in Rosebank for a 4 year contract. The role will require extensive travel to site in Kathu.
The purpose of the role is to evaluate detail engineering, performance tracking, configuration management, and interdisciplinary integration while leveraging technical expertise, data analytics, collaboration, and communication.
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the below:
Safety, Health and Environment
- Adhere to all health and safety practices and requirements.
- Support good housekeeping and other safety symbols on-site.
- Participate in safety initiatives (e.g.: VFLs) as required.
- Promote a culture in which safety and health are paramount and result in zero harm.
Performance and Delivery
- Technical and Strategic Support
- Facilitate strategic technical leadership to the engineering manager and broader engineering team, ensuring alignment with project goals and organisational objectives.
- Develop high-impact presentations for executive-level stakeholder engagements, incorporating strategic insights and data-driven recommendations.
- Lead the performance tracking of detailed engineering delivery, including documentation review, approval response times, and RFI/FEQ resolution, ensuring continuous improvement and efficiency.
- Identify and implement innovative solutions for document control, workflow optimisation, and process improvement, driving operational excellence.
- Support the Leadership Team by providing strategic insights, data-driven decision-making
- Communication and Reporting
- Assess the generation and integration of consolidated weekly, monthly, and ad-hoc reports, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and alignment with strategic objectives.
- Prepare and present technical reports to internal and external stakeholders, translating complex technical information into clear, actionable insights.
- Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration by acting as a key liaison between engineering, operations, and other project teams, ensuring seamless communication and alignment.
- Mentor and guide team members in effectively communicating technical information to non-technical stakeholders, enhancing overall project understanding and engagement.
- Project and Configuration Management
- Monitor performance management and review/approval workflows for field engineering queries (FEQs), ensuring timely resolution and adherence to project timelines.
- Co-ordinate the as-builts, data books, and technical information transfer to commissioning and operational departments, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Proactively manage and prioritise engineering actions, ensuring alignment with project milestones and strategic objectives.
- Document engineering meetings, ensuring clear action items, accountability, and follow-up.
- Provide strategic oversight of configuration management for technical documentation, ensuring compliance with organisational standards and best practices.
- Co-ordinate and oversee the collation, storage, and distribution of documents, briefing papers, reports, and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Organise and manage engineering consultants and service provider visits, ensuring compliance with company procedures and project requirements.
- Lead Free-Issue Procurement package co-ordination and inspections, ensuring quality and compliance with project specifications.
- Regulatory Compliance
- Stay abreast of evolving mining regulations and compliance requirements, ensuring the project meets all relevant technical and safety standards.
- Develop and implement compliance strategies to mitigate risks and ensure alignment with the company's Code of Conduct and Business Integrity Policy.
- Sustainability and Social
- Facilitate initiatives to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring engagements align with the project's sustainability and social responsibility goals.
- Assess sustainability-focused engineering and project management innovations, contributing to long-term environmental and social impact.

- Analyse and adapt leadership behaviours to inspire and motivate teams, fostering a high-performance culture aligned with company values and the company Leadership Code.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Relevant Technical or business management/administration qualification (NQF 6)
- Eng is preferred (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial)
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in the mining project industry, completing a PIT programme or similar.
- Proficient in digital configuration management systems and processes utilised on significant projects.
- Proficient in mathematical and statistical data gathering, measurement, organisation, and analysis skills.
- Advanced computer literacy, including Aconex, Microsoft Projects, Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, PowerBI, Adobe Acrobat, Bentley Itwin, and Trimble Connect.
- Digital acumen and technological literacy.
- Good knowledge of new technologies and their impact on projects
- Knowledge of basic financial metrics, cost management, value management, and budgeting tools.
- Experience in identifying and implementing process improvement opportunities.
- Proficient in applying project management fundamentals.
- Familiarity with change management methodologies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Own vehicle and valid driver's license
- Advanced collaborative skills, effectively engaging with the project team at all levels and with external stakeholders.
