Team Leader: Mortgage Pipeline Efficiency (Remote/Hybrid South Africa)

Role overview
An established, high-performing international mortgage brokerage is growing its case management function and is looking for a hands-on Team Leader to take ownership of mortgage pipeline efficiency, quality, and compliance.
In this role, you'll lead and develop a team of 8 Mortgage Coordinators across multiple regions and time zones:
- 2 full-time coordinators (South Africa)
- 1 full-time coordinator (UK)
- 5 remote coordinators (Philippines/Far East)
You'll be the operational driver ensuring applications move faster, submissions improve, and standards stay consistently high while acting as the escalation point for complex files and lender queries.
Key responsibilities
- Improve pipeline velocity and submission quality to UK lenders
- Identify, resolve, and prevent bottlenecks in the mortgage application process
- Run daily/weekly pipeline reviews, assigning actions and ensuring follow-through
- Complete regular compliance and file quality checks using GoHireLevel
- Track KPIs, monitor output, and calculate monthly performance-based commission (coordinators and consultants)
- Coach, motivate, and develop the team (1:1s, performance reviews, training plans, morale initiatives)
- Escalation point for complex cases and lender queries
- Drive strong collaboration between coordinators and 56 UK-based mortgage consultants
- Map and continuously improve the client journey from application to completion
- Produce management reporting on pipeline health, conversions, and team performance
Essential requirements
- 2-3+ years of people-management experience leading a team of 5+ (financial services environment)
- Strong experience in UK mortgage processing/case management (expat mortgages advantageous)
- Sharp attention to detail with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
- Proven ability to improve processes, efficiency, and quality standards
- Comfortable operating across South Africa / UK / Far East time zones
- Advanced CRM capability (strong advantage if you've worked with mortgage-focused CRMs)
- Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal)
- Highly organised, target-driven, and confident working with data/KPIs
Desirable
- Background in a mortgage brokerage or packager environment
- Understanding of South African payroll/employment practices (useful for commission calculations)
