About the position
Our client, a growing professional services firm, is seeking a highly organised and detail-driven Tax & Finance Administrator to play a key role in supporting their compliance and tax operations, based in Somerset West. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a structured, fast-paced environment and enjoys seeing matters through from start to finish.
The role sits at the intersection of tax compliance, client communication, and process management, making it ideal for a candidate who is confident managing multiple workstreams, maintaining clear trackers, and keeping deadlines firmly on course. For the right person, this role offers meaningful exposure and room to grow across broader finance and operational functions.
Responsibilities
- SARS Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Assist in the preparation and submission of Corporate Income Tax returns (including provisional tax) under the guidance of the Tax Consultant.
- Support the preparation of individual tax calculations and returns.
- Handle SARS eFiling submissions and manage all related SARS correspondence - including queries, objections, and audit responses.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all filings, deadlines, and correspondence.
- Client Communication & Case Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on open tax and SARS matters - providing clear, professional, and proactive status updates.
- Own and maintain a live tracker of all active cases, reflecting current status, outstanding items, next actions, deadlines, and responsible parties.
- Coordinate document requests between clients and the tax team, following up persistently to keep cases moving.
- Manage client expectations proactively, particularly where SARS timelines are uncertain or delayed.
- Process & Administrative Support
- Continuously improve the compliance tracking and submission system - this is a core part of the role, not an afterthought.
- Communicate upcoming SARS deadlines and compliance requirements to internal teams.
- Support process improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency across the tax function.
- Actively leverage AI tools and emerging technologies to simplify, automate, and improve tax and compliance processes - a genuine openness to new ways of working is essential. This role requires someone who embraces change and continuously looks for smarter, more efficient methods, rather than defaulting to legacy approaches.
- Flag risks, blockers, and at-risk deadlines to the Tax Manager before they become problems.
- Provide day-to-day administrative support to the Tax Manager and Tax Consultant.
- Attend and conduct SARS appointments at SARS branch offices when required. A valid driver's license and access to a reliable personal vehicle are therefore required.
Requirements
- A relevant qualification in Accounting, Taxation, or a related field (BCom, Diploma, or equivalent) - or demonstrated practical experience in a finance or compliance environment
- 1-3 years of experience in a finance, tax administration, or compliance-related role
- Demonstrable experience managing multiple tasks or workstreams simultaneously is essential
- A working understanding of SARS eFiling, VAT, Corporate Income Tax, PAYE, and provisional tax (must be able to read SARS correspondence, understand what stage a matter is at, and speak credibly to clients about it)
