Systems Engineer

About the position

Our client in the mining sector is recruiting an experienced System Engineer to support a large-scale mining and mineral processing project based in Richards Bay. The role focuses on coordinating system engineering activities across detailed design and construction phases, ensuring effective scope management, contractor performance, risk management and technical interface coordination.
The successful candidate will form part of the Owner's Engineering Team and work closely with engineering service providers and project stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain and manage the project Scope Book and engineering scope requirements
• Coordinate engineering interfaces between project teams, contractors and engineering service providers
• Support preparation of scopes of work and technical requirements for contractors
• Monitor contractor performance against scope, quality, cost and schedule requirements
• Review contractor deliverables with focus on constructability and work packaging
• Support resolution of technical issues, project risks and engineering challenges
• Participate in hazard studies, risk assessments and engineering milestone reviews
• Manage responses to technical queries (TQs) and requests for information (RFIs)
• Review and manage engineering change notices
• Support identification and mitigation of engineering risks
• Identify opportunities to improve project value and delivery efficiency
• Coordinate stakeholders to ensure aligned project execution

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Honours advantageous)
• Professional registration with ECSA (PrEng) advantageous
• 12+ years' experience in system engineering or project engineering
• Experience in large-scale mining or major capital projects
• Experience in mineral processing or mineral sands operations beneficial
• Strong contractor management and interface management experience
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• Ability to operate in a complex multidisciplinary project environment
• Travel Requirements: Occasional travel may be required as part of project execution
