About the position
Role:
These include understanding storage concepts, virtualization, networking, and the specific features of Storwize models and SAN volume controller. They should also be able to manage, configure, and troubleshoot Storwize systems using both the GUI and CLI. Additionally, knowledge of related technologies like SAN, virtualization, and IBM Spectrum Virtualize is beneficial.
Key Skills and Knowledge that will be required daily:
- Storage Fundamentals: Basic understanding of open systems, disk storage systems, and I/O operations is required.
- Virtualization: Understanding of virtualization concepts and how they apply to Storwize, including symmetric virtualization and virtual storage resources.
- SAN Networking: Knowledge of Storage Area Networking (SAN) and its role in connecting hosts to Storwize.
- IBM Spectrum Virtualize: Familiarity with Spectrum Virtualize, the software that manages and virtualizes Storwize storage, is beneficial.
- Storwize Configuration and Management: Ability to perform system initialization, configure user authentication, provision storage, and manage hosts and volumes.
- CLI and GUI: Proficiency in using both the command line interface (CLI) and the graphical user interface (GUI) for managing Storwize.
- Advanced Management Strategies: Understanding of advanced system management techniques, such as Easy Tier, FlashCopy, and remote mirroring, can enhance storage performance and reliability.
- Interoperability: Ability to ensure proper interoperability between Storwize and other systems.
- Problem Solving: Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and how to address common issues with Storwize.
- Hardware Architecture: Understanding of the physical components of Storwize, including the control enclosure and expansion enclosures.
- Planning and Zoning: Knowledge of planning and zoning requirements for Storwize deployments.
- Data Migration: Understanding of data migration processes for Storwize.
- Licensing: Knowledge of IBM Storwize licensing models.
- Cloud Integration: Familiarity with how Storwize integrates with cloud technologies.
The individual will be required to do daily health checks on storage and SAN, zoning and provisioning storage for new hosts, zone cleanups and storage cleanups for decommissioned hosts, trouble shooting, reports on capacity usage, monitoring dashboards, logging calls with vendors when required, applying firmware updates if and when required.
