About the position
A well known medical company is looking for a Surgical Instrument Lab Assistant to join their team in Cape Town. A relevant degree, preferably in Health Sciences or a related field and a valid driver's license and willingness to travel between different locations within Cape Town. Working days are Tuesday to Saturday.
Responsibilities:
Preparing, setting up and packing away surgical instruments and laboratory equipment.
Managing instrument cleaning, storage, repairs and replacements.
Taking ownership of stock and PPE management, including stock takes, inventory control and replenishment.
Preparing and setting up the laboratory, including tables, C-arm equipment, ramps and other infrastructure.
Providing on-the-ground clinical and operational support during laboratories, particularly while sales and clinical staff are scrubbed up supporting surgeons.
Managing promotional items and ensuring stock is available for upcoming events.
Inspecting laboratory facilities and equipment and coordinating repairs or replacements where required.
Coordinating laboratory orders, refreshments, consumables and other requirements.
Managing delegate attendance registers and the administration required for CPD and Fee for Service processing.
Ensuring the laboratory remains organised, professional and compliant at all times.
Requirements:
A relevant degree, preferably in Health Sciences or a related field.
A valid driver's licence and own transport + willingness to travel between different locations in Cape Town, when required.
Experience in a clinical, theatre, laboratory, medical device or healthcare environment would be advantageous.
Comfortable working in a cadaver laboratory environment and able to work with human cadaveric specimens as part of the role.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with sales, clinical and medical education teams.
Strong organisational, stock-management and administrative skills.
A practical, hands-on approach with excellent attention to detail.
Willingness to complete and maintain all required Health & Safety training and comply with laboratory safety protocols.
Comfortable working flexible hours, including weekends and laboratory events (this is a Tuesday to Saturday work week).
Fluent in English.
Must be able to work after hours and weekends as and when required especially for stock takes.
Preference will be given to a non-smoker.
Working days are Tuesday to Saturday.
