Introduction

ASSMANG Pty Ltd requires the services of Superintendent Rock Engineer at their Black Rock Mine Operations situated 80km North-West of Kuruman in the Northern Cape.

Description
Supervise and manage strata control officers and observers.  Manage, improve and maintain rock engineering systems and conduct underground investigations and input into mine design.

Minimum Requirements

• Certificate: Grade 12 (Required)
• Bachelor of Science: Mining / Geology / Physics (Required)
• Bachelor of Technology: Mining Engineering (Alternative)
• Chamber of Mine Strata Control Certificate (Required)
• Chamber of Mines Rock Mechanics Certificate (Required)
• Valid Drivers License: Code B/EB (Required)

Experience and Requirements: 

• 5 Years experience as Strata Control Officer in a mining operations environment.
• 6 Months Supervisory experience.

Knowledge and Skills: 

• Computer Literate (Microsoft Office).
• SHERQ Systems. 
• Plan, implement, control and monitor approved changes to area of responsibility to respond to changes in the industry, legislation, and other related matters including transformation and optimisation. Assist with workplace readiness assessment.
• Obtain, check and refine information. Collate and submit reports. Run data exception reports and take corrective action. Conduct document control spot-checks.
• Implement compliance requirements. Communicate compliance changes.
• Plan, direct and assess Quality Management within sub-function and recommend remedial actions where necessary to ensure adherence to TQM principles.
• Promote and assure adherence to safety, health and environmental procedures. Identify unsafe and hazardous situations. Diagnose incidents and accidents by completing root cause analyses and take corrective action. Conduct risk assessments. Stop work in unsafe areas. Ensure safety programs are executed.
• Provide input into functional planning. Interpret functional plan and develop sub-functional plans.
• Ensure operational plan is implemented.
• Manage the efficient and effective utilisation of resources. Optimise systems and processes continuously to ensure production efficiency targets and operational plans are met.
• Optimise the core operational internal processes and internal supply chain and resolve operational conflicts.
• Plan, direct and assess Quality Management within function and implement remedial actions. Ensure SCO reports and audit quality
• Remain up to date with economic conditions to indicate to the Rock Engineer the changes that may influence the implementation of the functional strategic plan.
• Provide input into the development of the short and medium term planning. Analyse business plans and ensure that implementation is aligned to the short and medium term plans.
• Supervise and manage strata control officers and observers.
• Provide inputs timeously into the rock engineering systems to ensure the system and the database are regularly updated.
• Conduct underground investigations and review both the SCO reports and Observer’s audit reports.
• Engage with subordinates to encourage and recognise improvement. Submit all innovations to Rock Engineer to ensure the means of implementation are provided.
