Substation Automation & Control Engineer

About the position

DESCRIPTION/SYNOPSYS:
A well-established electrical engineering firm is looking for an experienced Substation Automation & Control Engineer to join their high-voltage projects team. This role is ideal for an engineer with a passion for designing and implementing advanced control systems across 11kV-400kV substations. If you're confident with IEDs, SCADA, and communication protocols such as IEC 61850, and enjoy working across both office and site environments, this is your opportunity to play a vital role in the energy sector's digital transformation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Systems Engineering
• 5 - 7 years' experience in substation automation/control (11kV-400kV)
• Hands-on experience with IEDs from vendors like Siemens, GE, ABB, SEL, Schneider
• Strong knowledge of IEC 61850, GOOSE messaging, and SCADA systems
• Experience with tools like DIGSI, PCM600, IET600, RTU/PLC programming
• Familiarity with Modbus, DNP3, MMS protocols and SCADA/EMS integration
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as needed

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design and develop substation automation and control architectures
• Configure IEDs, RTUs, HMIs, PLCs, and communication networks
• Create and review logic diagrams, schematics, and interlocking schemes
• Integrate automation systems with SCADA/EMS platforms (IEC 61850, Modbus, etc.)
• Perform FAT and support SAT in collaboration with commissioning teams
• Document configuration files, test plans, and device settings
• Interface with internal teams, OEMs, utilities, and system integrators
• Provide troubleshooting support for operational substations, including cyber compliance
• Ensure designs and implementations meet safety, utility, and cybersecurity standards
