About the position
A leading hair and beauty retail company is looking for an experienced Store Manager with strong experience in retail sales, customer service, staff management, stock control and overall store operations to join their team at Pavillion, Westville, Durban. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving sales and profitability, maintaining excellent customer service standards, managing staff effectively and ensuring the store is consistently maintained to a high operational and visual standard.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of the day-to-day management of the store, including sales, staff, stock and resources.
- Develop strategies to increase customer traffic, grow the customer base and optimise profitability.
- Meet sales targets through training, motivating, mentoring and providing feedback to sales staff.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent service.
- Complete store administration and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Maintain outstanding store condition and visual merchandising standards.
- Monitor and report on buying trends, customer needs, profits and other relevant store information.
- Propose innovative ideas to increase market share.
- Conduct personnel performance appraisals, identify training needs and support career development.
- Deal with staff and customer issues, including complaints and grievances.
- Conduct daily stock counts, investigate variances and report discrepancies within the required timeframe.
- Monitor service bookings, collections and turnaround times, ensuring customer commitments are met.
- Follow up on customer queries, refunds, complaints, orders and other outstanding matters.
- Check completed stylist work to ensure it meets the required standards and customer requirements.
- Follow up on branch requests and escalate issues where necessary.
- Ensure displays are correctly maintained, wigs are styled appropriately for sale, and all units are correctly labelled and priced.
- Ensure the store is clean, presentable and adequately staffed according to the staff schedule.
- Manage leave administration and ensure relevant information is captured and approved.
- Respond to POS reconciliation queries and attend to transaction variances.
- Ensure the branch has the required equipment and resources to operate effectively.
- Prepare payroll movements, damages and leave information.
- Prepare work schedules and off-day schedules.
- Complete month-end processes and ensure all sales, returns and exchanges are captured.
- Order and manage store groceries and minimise waste and theft.
- Monitor customer satisfaction, sales and profitability targets, store cleanliness, staff appearance and workplace culture.
- Conduct regular team meetings and communicate daily, weekly and monthly sales targets.
- Ensure all sales are captured on POS and customers receive their transaction slips.
- Ensure store security procedures are followed, including securing company assets and setting the store alarm.
- Place weekly stock and product orders and follow up on expected deliveries.
- Submit weekly stock takes and attend to stock variances within the required turnaround times.
- Perform any other reasonable duties aligned with the Store Manager role.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in a Store Manager or supervisory role within a retail environment.
- Strong sales and customer service skills.
- Experience managing and motivating staff.
- Experience with stock management and stock take processes.
- Strong administrative and organisational skills.
- Ability to monitor and drive sales and profitability targets.
- Ability to handle customer queries, complaints and grievances professionally.
- Experience with POS processes and transaction reconciliation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to investigate stock and transaction variances.
- Ability to maintain high standards of store presentation and visual merchandising.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage workplace issues.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of day-to-day store operations.
