About the position
A key role has opened for a Storage Systems Engineer to manage and optimise enterprise storage platforms supporting technical and operational infrastructure. This position is ideal for a systems-focused engineer with hands-on experience in storage administration, infrastructure management, and Linux-based environments.
As the Storage Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining storage availability, performance, and reliability while supporting backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes. You will work closely with engineering teams to ensure scalable, maintainable, and secure storage solutions in line with best practices.
Key Responsibilities (amongst others):
- Administer, monitor, and support enterprise storage platforms across on-premises and cloud environments
- Conduct troubleshooting, fault-finding, and resolution of storage incidents
- Support backup, restore, and disaster recovery operations
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of storage systems, configurations, and procedures
- Contribute to storage-related projects and continuous system improvements
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support operational reliability and service continuity
- Manage hardware maintenance, including replacement and upgrades of drives, memory, CPUs, and related components
Minimum Requirements
Qualification(s) required:
- National Diploma, BTech/BSc, BEng/MTech, MEng, or PhD in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or Electronic Engineering (qualification level aligned with experience requirements below)
Experience (qualification-dependent):
Proven hands-on experience in enterprise storage administration, including SANs, storage servers, and hardware/software upgrades:
- 7 years' relevant experience, coupled with a National Diploma, OR
- 6 years' relevant experience, coupled with a BTech/BSc, OR
- 4 years' relevant experience, coupled with a BEng/MTech, OR
- 3 years' relevant experience, coupled with a MEng, OR
- 1 year relevant experience, coupled with a PhD
Additional Experience required:
- Experience in Linux systems administration, basic automation, and infrastructure troubleshooting
- Exposure to distributed systems, containerisation, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps/SRE practices
- Experience in data centre or server room environments and familiarity with computer networks
Knowledge and Skills required:
- Systems engineering principles, including performance optimisation, fault tolerance, and resource scheduling
- Storage system monitoring, diagnostics, and repair for OEM hardware (e.g., HPE, Dell, Super Micro)
- Infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD methodologies, and automation tools (GitLab CI, Ansible, Terraform advantageous)
- Asset management, inventory tracking, SLAs, and operational frameworks (SRE, ITIL, COBIT)
- Strong problem-solving, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting skills
- Effective communication, documentation, and collaboration across teams
- Commitment to continuous learning in storage technologies, Linux systems, and computing infrastructure
