Stock Cost Accountant

About the position

Our client, DCMeat Wholesalers, situated in Paarl, Western Cape, is an established meat manufacturing concern producing quality meat products for major retailers.

We are seeking a Stock Cost Accountant to play a critical role in managing inventory costing, stock control, and ensuring financial accuracy within our manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate product costing structures and recipe costings for all manufactured meat products
• Monitor and analyse stock levels, ensuring minimum stock requirements are maintained
• Calculate and review mark-ups and pricing structures to ensure profitability
• Plan, coordinate and manage regular stock takes and cycle counts
• Investigate and resolve stock variances, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
• Reconcile physical stock counts with system records
• Prepare monthly stock reports and variance analyses for management
• Work closely with production and procurement teams to ensure accurate inventory movements
• Review and update standard costs based on raw material price fluctuations
• Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards
• Assist with month-end and year-end stock valuations

Requirements (Essential):

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or related field OR relevant proven experience in stock cost accounting
• Minimum 2-3 years' experience in cost accounting or stock control within a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) environment
• Strong understanding of inventory management principles and cost accounting methodologies
• Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills
• Experience managing stock takes and investigating variances
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Advantageous:

• Experience in the food manufacturing or FMCG sector
• Knowledge of meat processing/wholesaling operations
• Experience with Pastel Evolution
• Familiarity with ERP systems
