About the position

We are looking for a skilled and proactive SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team full-time. This role is perfect for a mid-level DBA who thrives on performance tuning, optimization, and has a keen interest in modern SQL DevOps practices. You will play a vital role in maintaining and improving our SQL estate, with a strong emphasis on Azure SQL Managed Instance (MI).

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitor, maintain, and optimize SQL Server databases for high performance and availability.
  • Conduct database tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
  • Manage database backups, restores, and disaster recovery operations.
  • Collaborate with development teams to improve SQL standards and support database-driven development.
  • Work with infrastructure teams to implement high availability and failover strategies in Azure SQL.
  • Promote and implement SQL DevOps practices, including CI/CD and automation.
  • Use Redgate SQL Monitor for proactive monitoring and alerting.
  • Track and manage work through JIRA and contribute to database design and architectural discussions
  • Maintain database security, integrity, and compliance.
    Job requirements & preferred skills:
  • 3-5 years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in a production environment.
  • Strong skills in SQL Server performance tuning and query optimization.
  • Proficiency in T-SQL, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis.
  • Experience with Azure SQL Managed Instance (MI) - including migration, setup, and optimization.
  • Familiarity with Redgate SQL Monitor and JIRA.
  • Proven knowledge of backup/recovery strategies and disaster recovery planning.
  • Excellent analytical thinking and communication skills.
