About the position
A leading national road infrastructure authority is seeking a Specialist Transport Engineer to lead and support strategic transport planning, traffic modelling, and network demand analysis. The successful candidate will spearhead the development of road traffic flow models, traffic forecasting, land use assessment, and the national road master plan.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (NQF Level 8)
- ECSA registered Professional Engineer or Technologist
- 10+ years' experience in transport/traffic engineering
- 5+ years in modelling, origin-destination surveys, tolling studies
- 5+ years in a managerial/senior role
- Proficiency in traffic modelling software (Visum, Aimsun, EMME, SANTURN)
- Experience with COTO TRH/TMH standards
- Public sector/SOE experience preferred
- Postgraduate degree in Transportation Engineering (advantageous)
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain the national road traffic demand model
- Analyse road traffic flow, congestion levels, and network demand
- Conduct tolling and road pricing studies
- Perform traffic origin-destination analysis and environmental impact evaluations
- Lead policy development for LOS (Level of Service) and capacity planning
- Provide technical guidance on COTO TRH/TMH standards
- Interface with integrated transport systems and support capital projects
- Supervise traffic software performance and enhancements
- Mentor junior traffic engineers and represent in working groups
