About the position
We are seeking an experienced Specialist: Structural Engineer (previously known as Bridge Network Manager) to manage and oversee the design, construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of all structures within the national road network. This includes bridges, culverts, and hydraulics, as well as central administration.
As a leader in this field, the Specialist Structural Engineer will also provide specialist advisory services on projects locally and internationally, ensuring innovation, compliance, and excellence in structural engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the identification, planning, and prioritisation of structural projects.
- Develop and maintain policies, standards, and procedures for structures on the national road network.
- Provide technical advisory services to internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversee national structures management, reviewing and approving design proposals.
- Conduct site visits, inspections, and quality assurance checks.
- Mentor junior and candidate engineers and contribute to capacity building in the industry.
- Represent the organisation in committees, working groups, and professional forums.
Minimum Requirements
- NQF Level 8 Qualification: B Eng or B Sc in Civil Engineering (Structures) or equivalent.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) with ECSA.
- Minimum 10 years' post-degree experience as a Bridge Engineer, with at least 5 years' hands-on bridge design experience using TMH7.
- Minimum 5 years managerial, or 3 years leadership experience.
- Ability to travel to regional offices and conduct site inspections.
- SAQA evaluation confirmation required for international qualifications.
Advantageous
- Prior consulting experience in bridge engineering.
- Experience beyond the minimum bridge engineering requirements.
- COTO-certified Bridge Inspector or Senior Bridge Inspector accreditation.
