About the Opportunity

A leading South African development finance institution operating within the agricultural sector is seeking to appoint an experienced Agricultural Specialist: Workout & Restructuring at its Head Office in Centurion.

This role is suited to a commercially astute agricultural finance professional with strong restructuring, turnaround and credit expertise. The successful incumbent will play a pivotal role in stabilising and rehabilitating distressed agricultural banking clients through innovative and sustainable restructuring solutions.

Main Purpose of the Role

  • Develop and implement innovative commercial restructuring solutions for distressed banking clients.

  • Apply turnaround methodologies to design, implement and monitor business rescue strategies.

  • Manage the full end-to-end workout and restructuring process for allocated clients.

?? Key Performance Areas

1?? Innovative Restructuring Solutions

  • Assume portfolio management responsibility for distressed clients transferred to the Workout & Restructuring Unit.

  • Engage Banking, Credit, Legal and Collections teams to obtain a holistic understanding of each client.

  • Conduct diagnostic analysis and preliminary due diligence (including recommending external due diligence where appropriate).

  • Assess long-term commercial and financial viability.

  • Engage clients to determine urgency and risk exposure, escalating where required.

2?? Implementation of Approved Restructures

  • Communicate restructuring outcomes to relevant stakeholders.

  • Negotiate equitable and commercially sound solutions aligned to the institution's risk appetite.

  • Facilitate drafting of loan, equity and security agreements in collaboration with Legal.

  • Ensure conclusion and signing of all agreements in line with approved terms.

3?? Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Monitor performance of restructured accounts to ensure turnaround objectives are achieved.

  • Analyse management information and address performance variances.

  • Present account updates to governance structures (EXCO, Credit Committees, Board).

  • Provide input to Finance for impairment calculations.

4?? Advisory Services

  • Guide Banking and Collections teams in identifying accounts requiring workout intervention.

  • Contribute subject matter expertise to policy and procedure reviews.

  • Support client engagements requiring restructuring expertise.

  • Represent the institution at relevant internal and external forums.

5?? Record Keeping & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with record management policies.

  • Compile governance and trend reports.

  • Maintain accurate client information across systems.

  • Address audit findings and implement corrective measures.

?? Preferred Minimum Education & Experience

3-year Business, Agriculture or Commercial qualification (BCom or equivalent).

3-5 years' banking experience, including:

Finance/Banking deal structuring

Primary agriculture exposure

Structured trade and commodity finance

Strong financial and credit analysis

Business turnaround planning

Evaluation of restructures/workouts

Managing distressed clients

  • Willingness to travel when required

  • Ability to work extended hours when necessary

  • Comfortable working outdoors where applicable

  • Valid South African Driver's License

  • Strong stress management and time management skills
