About the position
Role Purpose
The Solution Architect is responsible for designing and maintaining end-to-end solution architectures that align business processes with technology systems within the mining and operational technology environment. The role ensures that enterprise solutions are fit-for-purpose, scalable, and aligned to architectural governance standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Solution Architecture & Design
- Translate business and technical requirements into scalable architecture designs
- Develop end-to-end solution architectures aligned to enterprise frameworks and standards
- Validate solution designs for technical feasibility, scalability, and operational fit
- Ensure alignment between business processes and technology solutions across mining operations
- Evaluate and select appropriate software products and platforms
2. Architecture Governance & Standards
- Ensure all solution designs comply with enterprise architecture frameworks and ICT standards
- Apply governance principles across solution design, delivery, and lifecycle management
- Monitor adherence to architectural guidelines across project teams and vendors
- Support lifecycle management of core systems and technology assets
3. Stakeholder Engagement & Advisory
- Act as a solution authority providing architectural guidance across business and technical teams
- Facilitate decision-making on system design and technology adoption
- Build strong stakeholder relationships across engineering, operations, and IM functions
- Support collaboration across business units to reduce duplication and improve integration
4. Business Process & Systems Alignment
- Develop and maintain business process architecture aligned to operational requirements
- Ensure technology solutions are embedded within business value chains
- Support business case development and solution feasibility assessments
- Drive standardisation and optimisation of enterprise systems and processes
5. Delivery & Project Lifecycle Support
- Participate in full project lifecycle: initiation, requirements analysis, design, implementation, and testing
- Ensure architectural integrity throughout delivery phases
- Oversee test planning and validation of solution implementations
- Support continuous improvement of solution delivery processes
6. Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Identify opportunities for system optimisation and process improvement
- Monitor emerging technology trends relevant to mining and OT environments
- Promote reuse, standardisation, and simplification of solution components
- Contribute to innovation initiatives within Information Management
7. Compliance, Risk & Assurance
- Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and internal governance requirements
- Identify and assess architectural risks and propose mitigation strategies
- Monitor regulatory and operational changes impacting system architecture
- Ensure secure, reliable, and compliant solution delivery
8. Knowledge Management & Best Practice
- Share architectural knowledge across IM and engineering teams
- Promote adoption of best practices and enterprise standards
- Support training and enablement of solution architects and delivery teams
RequirementsMinimum Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree (Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline) – Essential
- Management Development Programme – Advantageous
- ITIL Foundation Certification – Advantageous
Experience
- 6–8 years’ experience in Information and Communication Technology environments
- Strong background in solution design and delivery across multiple roles (developer, analyst, architect, project manager)
- Experience in mining, industrial, or operational technology environments (advantageous)
- Experience optimising business processes through technology solutions
- Certifications (Advantageous / Required where applicable)
- TOGAF (Open Group Architecture Framework) – Essential
- COBIT 5 Foundation – Advantageous
- Psychometric Assessment – Required
- Certificate of Fitness – Required
