Solar Electrician - Construction Projects (Ref: 23829)

About the position

ROLE OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Electrician to join a dynamic team in the solar energy sector. This is a site-based role requiring extensive travel and long-stay project commitments. The successful candidate must have solid hands-on experience working on three-phase electrical systems, solar PV installations (100kW+), transformers, and medium voltage (MV) reticulation (11kV/22kV). Prior work in construction environments is essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Install, maintain, and commission solar PV systems (100kW and above).
• Work on 3-phase distribution systems, switchgear, and protection.
• Perform cable terminations (LV and MV) and ensure correct phasing and insulation.
• Assist with transformer installation and commissioning.
• Execute electrical tasks as per SANS regulations and safety protocols.
• Work closely with the project manager, engineers, and other contractors on-site.
• Troubleshoot system issues and ensure reliable system performance.
• Complete job cards, installation reports, and as-built documentation.
• Work away from home for up to 3 weeks at a time on active construction sites.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Trade Tested Electrician (Red Seal) - essential.
• Minimum 3-5 years' experience in electrical work, specifically in the solar or construction sector.
• Proven experience with:
• 3-phase power systems
• Solar systems above 100kW
• Transformer installation and connections
• Medium Voltage networks (11kV/22kV)
• Construction sites and cable work
• MV competency training or MV switching license is an advantage.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel frequently and stay away for extended periods.
