About the position
High-level role overview:
The Software Quality Assurance Analyst will act as the company’s internal software-quality specialist, providing structured and independent testing across the software development and implementation lifecycle.
The role will review requirements for completeness and testability, develop test strategies and test plans, prepare detailed test scenarios and scripts, execute functional and integration testing, manage defects, perform regression testing and support business users during User Acceptance Testing.
The role will also establish consistent QA standards, templates, quality gates, and reporting across projects. The analyst will provide project teams and decisionmakers with clear visibility of test coverage, open defects, quality risks and release readiness before systems are implemented.
The role must determine testing depth, test priorities, risk coverage, defect severity, regression scope and whether the available evidence supports a release-readiness recommendation. These decisions can affect release timing, project cost, operational continuity, financial controls, customer experience, and the level of risk accepted by the business.
Role purpose:
The Software Quality Assurance Analyst is responsible for establishing and executing structured quality assurance and software testing practices across the company’s technology and digital transformation projects.
The role ensures that software applications, integrations, workflows, reports, and digital solutions meet approved business requirements, operate reliably across interconnected systems and are sufficiently stable for implementation. The Software Quality Assurance Analyst will work closely with project managers, business analysts, developers, vendors, technical teams and business stakeholders to identify quality risks, develop testing strategies, execute testing, manage defects, and provide evidence
based release-readiness recommendations.
The role will support applications across the company and its associated brands, including web and mobile applications, internally developed systems, vendor solutions, Microsoft Power Platform applications, POS integrations, transactional platforms, reporting solutions, and operational systems.
.
Key responsibilities:
Quality assurance strategy and planning:
- Develop and maintain appropriate test strategies, test plans, test schedules and quality-assurance approaches for technology projects and software releases.
- Define the scope, objectives, types, environments, resources, dependencies, risks, entry criteria and exit criteria for each testing cycle.
- Estimate testing effort and provide realistic input into project plans, sprint plans and release schedules.
- Apply risk-based testing principles to prioritise high-impact business processes, financial transactions, security controls, integrations, and customer-facing functionality.
- Ensure testing activities are aligned with the approved project scope, business requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Identify required test environments, devices, system access, test accounts, data and technical dependencies before testing begins.
Requirements review and testability:
- Review business requirements, functional specifications, user stories, process maps, business rules and acceptance criteria to confirm that they are clear, complete, consistent, and testable.
- Identify gaps, ambiguities, conflicting requirements, edge cases, control weaknesses, and quality risks before development is completed.
- Work with the Business Analyst, Project Manager, developers, and business stakeholders to clarify expected results and resolve requirement uncertainty.
- Contribute to requirement and solution walkthroughs from a quality-assurance perspective.
- Ensure that expected results and quality standards are sufficiently defined before test cases are prepared.
Test case design and test preparation:
- Design and maintain test scenarios, test cases, test scripts, checklists, and test data requirements.
- Ensure testing covers positive, negative, boundary, exception, validation, and end-to-end business scenarios.
- Link test cases to the relevant requirements, user stories, or acceptance criteria.
- Maintain reusable regression test packs for key platforms and business processes.
Test execution:
- Execute manual functional, system, integration, end-to-end, regression, smoke, sanity, usability, and compatibility testing.
- Validate that software functionality meets approved business and functional requirements.
- Test complete business processes across applications, databases, APIs, workflows, notifications, reporting tools, POS systems, and third-party platforms.
- Test software across relevant browsers, devices, operating systems, and user roles.
- Record actual test results and retain appropriate screenshots, logs, extracts or other supporting evidence.
- Perform exploratory testing to identify issues not covered by predefined test cases.
Integration and transactional testing:
- Test integrations between internal systems, vendor platforms, APIs, POS systems, payment services, databases, Microsoft 365 services, and reporting platforms.
- Validate successful and unsuccessful transaction paths, including error handling, retries, timeouts, cancellations, duplicate transactions, and interrupted processes.
- Confirm that data is transferred correctly between systems and that statuses remain synchronised.
- Test reconciliation, audit and reporting outputs arising from integrated transactions.
- Identify whether defects originate within a specific application or at the boundary between integrated systems.
- Pay particular attention to financial, voucher, payment, loyalty, customer, reporting and other high-impact transaction flows.
Defect management:
- Log defects with clear titles, descriptions, reproduction steps, expected results, actual results, evidence, environment details, and business impact.
- Classify defects according to agreed severity and priority definitions.
- Facilitate defect-triage sessions with developers, business analysts, project managers, vendors and business representatives.
- Track defects from identification through investigation, resolution, retesting, and closure.
- Reproduce reported issues and provide clear supporting evidence to technical teams.
- Retest corrected defects and perform appropriate regression testing to identify unintended consequences.
Regression testing:
- Develop and maintain regression packs for business-critical applications and recurring release cycles.
- Identify existing functionality that may be affected by new development, configuration changes or defect corrections.
- Execute regression testing before significant releases and after material changes.
- Ensure that new functionality does not negatively affect existing processes, integrations, controls or reporting.
- Recommend suitable candidates for test automation based on frequency, stability, risk and repeatability.
- Track regression coverage and outstanding gaps across releases.
User acceptance testing support:
- Work with the Business Analyst, Project Manager and business stakeholders to prepare the User Acceptance Testing approach.
- Assist with translating business requirements and acceptance criteria into business-focused UAT scenarios.
- Confirm that the UAT environment, user access, test data, and supporting information is ready.
- Brief business testers on the UAT process, expected evidence and defect-logging requirements.
- Support users during execution and help distinguish defects from requirement changes, training needs, configuration issues, or new enhancement requests.
- Track UAT progress, defects, decisions and sign-off.
- Ensure that outstanding defects and accepted risks are clearly communicated before business approval is requested.
Minimum qualifications:
- A diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
- ISTQB Foundation
Minimum experience:
- Five to ten years' experience in software quality assurance, software testing, test analysis or a comparable role.
- Demonstrated experience preparing test strategies, test plans, test cases, test scripts, and regression packs.
- Experience testing web applications, mobile applications, enterprise systems, or transactional platforms.
- Experience performing functional, system, integration, end-to-end and regression testing.
- Experience managing defects through the complete defect lifecycle.
- Experience working directly with developers, business analysts, project managers, business users and external vendors.
- Experience working in Agile, Waterfall or hybrid development environments.
- Experience producing clear testing reports and presenting quality risks to stakeholders.
Advantageous experience:
- Experience within QSR, retail, hospitality, franchising, or multi-site operations.
- Experience testing POS, voucher, loyalty, payment, ordering or other high-volume transactional systems.
- Experience testing APIs and integrated systems.
- Experience with Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint and Dataverse
