About the position

Postion Summary:
The Senior Signal Processing Engineer plans, implements, modifies, administers and verifies telescope correlator-beamformers and related signal processing systems for the SKA-Mid telescope. They’re responsible for the engineering processes throughout the engineering lifecycle of the signal processing subsystem, from contributing to the design and design reviews, taking the lead implementer role, and to operations for the SKA-Mid telescope. They must also possess a deep understanding and experience in Systems Engineering, Agile methodologies and DevOps processes. They must demonstrate a high to expert level of proficiency in Python, Git, Test-Driven Development, Test Automation & Continuous Integration. Senior engineers will be expected to guide and work with more junior team members to accomplish their tasks. Senior engineers are expected to be accountable for their deliverables. As part of the SKA-Mid Operations team, they are expected to provide a senior level of Signal Processing systems support, able to investigate, diagnose and resolve complex issues with minimum guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and verify SKA-Mid correlator-beamformers and related signal processing systems
  • Contribute to systems engineering and Operations documentation refinementSupport users, operators, as well as the implementation of releases, system changes and fixes
  • Work with the Correlator Beamformer construction teams Work with system/array integration team, supporting correlator integration and testing Be an integral member of the SKA-Mid Computing and Software team, as a senior technical specialist that supports the establishment of SKA-Mid signal processing and correlator operationsEstablish and maintain a professional relationship with SARAO Digital Signal Processing teamParticipate in project management and activity management activities
  • Attend relevant training/courses to gain experience and improved knowledge
  • Research new technologies, methods or approaches, with the purpose of utilizing them within the organization
  • Participate in innovation and technology development initiatives
  • Mentor and educate more junior engineers as and when required

Minimum Qualification:
  • Bachelors Degree / Advanced Diploma / NQF 7

Minimum Experience:
  • 5-9 years
  • BTech/ BEng/ MTech/ Meng/ PHD in electronic engineering, Digital Signal Processing, Control systems, Computer Science, or such relevant qualifications

Experience:
  • BTech coupled with 13 years’ relevant working experience; or BEng/MTech coupled with 9 years’ relevant working experience; or MEng coupled with 7 years’ relevant working experience; or PHD coupled with 5 years’ relevant working experience in Digital Signal Processing, FPGA design, development and verification, combined with software engineering, preferably in an engineering development project environment
  • Experience with multirate DSP algorithms, including FFTs, FIR and IIR filters, DDS and DDCs and signal processing operational concepts such as data buffering, transposing and reorderingExperience in parallel, multirate DSP algorithm development and implementation, with experience in accelerating these implementations on FPGAs or general HPC (e
