Site Supervisor Sutherland at South African Astronomical Observatory

About the position

SAAO is seeking to appoint a site supervisor for the Sutherland site to ensure that all infrastructure is effectively and efficiently
operational and maintained to the required standard.

Responsible for the supervising and coordination of SAAO Sutherland team responsible for maintenance, upkeep of all SAAO Sutherland
infrastructure (buildings, roads, water reticulation, electrical infrastructure, vehicle fleet, refuse removal, firefighting systems,
environment).Ensure that all infrastructure is effectively operational and maintained to the required standard.

Key Responsibilities:

• Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Report to the SAAO Facility Manager (Sutherland).
• Supervision and coordination of SAAO Sutherland Site personnel with regard to scope of work for general infrastructure maintenance
• and upgrades.
• Assist and support general maintenance.
• Ensure that agreed work has been completed satisfactorily.
• Prepare documentation for procurement purposes.
• Supervision for all site contractors working on site on assigned projects.
• Coordinate organization??s vehicle fleet in terms of vehicle readiness and allocation.
• Transportation of organization??s personnel and stakeholders.
• Ensure execution of organization??s Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance of construction and electrical regulations.
• Ensure technical integrity of site infrastructure.
• Respond to site emergencies and urgent site issues as it arises.
• Provide input to budgets, budget forecasts, cash flow information.
• Assist in preparation of budgets, forecasts and long-term business plans for approval by SAAO Management.

Key Requirements:

Qualification:

• Minimum Electrical Trade Test Certificate with N3 Technical certificate.
• Valid driver??s license. Code C1 will be advantageous.

Experience:

• Minimum of 5 years????experience in Facility Management or related field of which:
• Minimum 3 years????MV/LV electrical distribution experience with regards to operation and commissioning.
• Proven experience in managing and supervising.

Knowledge:

• Knowledge in Project and Contracting Management.
• Knowledge of South African National Standards (SANS) for power supply and distribution.
• Knowledge of public sector supply chain management legislation and implementation thereof.
• Knowledge and Understanding of South African construction industry legislation.
• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety.
• Proficient in MS Office, or similar applications (Word, Excel).
• Experienced in the reading and interpretation of electrical and instrumentation drawings, diagrams, and schedules.
