About the position

Site General Manager

Area: Germiston Gauteng

Salary: R65 000 - R80 000 CTC per month

Purpose of the position: The incumbent will be responsible for the overall leadership, governance, strategic direction, financial health, operational performance, and compliance of the site laboratory business. The role ensures that all departments operate effectively, profitably, and in line with customer, legal quality and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for the site in line with company strategy and objectives.
  • Develop and implement annual business plans, operational strategies and growth initiatives.

Financial Management

  • Assume full Profit & Loss (P&L) responsibility for the site.
  • Develop, monitor and manage annual operating and capital budgets.

Operational Overview

  • Oversee the daily operations of the laboratory and associated site activities.
  • Ensure projects and testing services are delivered safely, efficiently and within agreed turnaround times.

Quality and Compliance.

  • Ensure compliance with ISO standards, SANAS accreditation requirements and company quality management systems.
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of all laboratory testing processes.

Human Resources and Labour Compliance.

  • Lead, develop and manage multidisciplinary teams across the site.
  • Drive employee engagement, performance management and succession planning.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding and staff development.

Client and Stakeholder Management.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, consultants, contractors and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service and responsiveness.
  • Attend client meetings and provide technical and operational support where required.

Risk and Performance Management

  • Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all SHEQ policies.
  • Lead initiatives to promote a strong safety culture across the site.

Performance Management & Reporting

  • Develop and monitor operational KPIs across all departments.
  • Prepare monthly operational and financial reports for executive management.

Skills Experience and qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma in Business Management, Engineering, Operations or related field
  • 12 -15 years Construction Management
  • Technical Skills: MS Office, quality control, financial acumen, contractual and labour management.
  • Organised, attention to detail, effective communicator, use initiative.
  • Construction materials testing
  • Full site Profit & Loss (P&L) accountability.
  • Leading multidisciplinary teams in a technical environment.
  • ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and SANAS accreditation.
  • Contract management and commercial negotiations.
  • Labour relations and people leadership.
  • SHEQ management within a construction or engineering environment.
  • Strategic planning and business development.
  • Client relationship management with consulting engineers, contractors and government entities.
