About the position
The Site Environmental Officer will be responsible for the implementation of Integrated Environmental Management Plan (EMP), Environmental Management Plan and monitoring of Contractor Environmental Management Plans and all construction licence compliance requirements during construction and operations.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Ensuring contractor compliance to their EMP and the company Integrated Environmental Management Plan, company Environmental Management Plan and construction licences
- Conduct and document regular environmental inspections, monitoring and audits
- Ongoing environmental training & reporting and maintaining environmental aspect/incident report log & complaints register
- Coordinate environmental matters with internal teams, contractors, company stakeholders, authorities and other stakeholders as required
- Monitor and track corrective actions to ensure timely closeout of findings, non-compliances and incidents
- Provide support to the Environment Specialist in terms of compliance reporting to the company.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Qualification:
- A recognised National Diploma in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years experience on a construction site; and
- Registration or eligibility for registration with SACNASP or EAPASA is advantageous
Experience:
- Proven knowledge of the National Environmental Management Act, National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act and other construction related environmental regulations.
- Proven knowledge and implementation of environmental management plans (EMP/ EMPr) during construction.
- Proven knowledge of environmental aspect Hazard Identification and Risk Management Processes.
- Sound knowledge of environmental incident investigation processes and their causation phenomena.
- Environmental Auditing and inspection training.
- Experience in building strong people relationships, general management practices and experience in managing and leading contractor environmental teams;
- Valid driver's licence;
- Ability and willingness to travel between various Northern Cape locations and be prepared to reside on site in a permanent basis.
Knowledge:
- Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills;
- A flexible team player who is adaptable to change;
- Fluent in English with excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Familiarity with the formalism for, and requirements of, quality control environments such as ISO[Phone Number Removed]; and 45001;
- Knowledge of the South African construction industry legislation and regulations.
