SHIPPING MANAGER at Rhodes Food Group

About the position

Introduction

Directs the shipping department in the preparation of the required documentation for the export of the Company's products. Organizes the necessary cargo space. Liaises with suppliers, customs officials and shipping and logistics agents when required. Ensures that claims for damage and goods lost in transit are properly handled. Responsible for compliance with legislation regarding exchange control and other statutory requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

1. Operational Excellence / Shipping Management, Logistics and Processing

• Responsible/accountable for all export logistics, documentation and service levels.
• Ensure shipping instructions are properly processed, and cargo is efficiently transported to the port and loaded onto vessels and meets all minimum storage and handling requirements.
• Ensure optimal and adequate packaging stock levels are maintained.
• Provide management reporting on shipment updates and tracking of shipments.

2. Stakeholder Engagement and Compliance (Including Customs Compliance)

• Coordinate and collaborate with all designated shipping lines, shipping/cargo agents and port authorities, customs and container depots in driving workflow improvement and document processes (including compliance with all required shipping documentation).
• Work with, and coordinate activities between RFI Commercial, Logistics and Warehouse / Labeling departments and external freight companies (e.g. SACD) to meet deadlines, set targets and customer requirements.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers (packaging, shipping) and service providers who provide outsourced technical and administrative support.
• Ensure that the organization is aware of and complies with regulatory shipping requirements and required industry practices.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with shipping/cargo-handling agencies, and related industry players.

3. Financial Management and Processing

• Accountability for accurate capturing of all payments to all shipping lines and securing all approvals for payment from accounts department.
• Adhere to and operate within departmental/cost centre budgetary parameters.

4. People Management

• Provide leadership to the team, defining objectives to be achieved by the department.
• Manage the working environment and ensure it contributes to improving staff morale and increasing productivity.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Our ideal candidate must have:

• Diploma / NQF Level 6 qualification.
• At least 5 years' experience in the Import and Export Field.

• Be able to analyse information.
• Ability to work in a team.
