Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12
- Tertiary qualification - Safety Management / Environmental Health / Quality Management / Risk / Related
- SAMTRAC
- ISO 14001, ISP 9001 and ISO 14001 implementation and auditing experience
- 5+ year's relevant experience
Overview of duties
Strategy & Development
- Develop and implement SHERQ strategy aligned to business objectives
- Identify improvement opportunities;
- Ensure compliance with legislative changes
- Develop annual SHERQ plans and Audits
- Drive continuous improvement
- Support operational efficiency across warehousing and retail
- Prepare and present monthly/quarterly SHERQ reports to Executive Management
- Monitor legal appointments and statutory compliance validity across all sites
- Ensure compliance files are audit-ready at all times
- Drive governance standards and compliance culture across the business
Health & Safety Management
- Implement and maintain OHSA compliance systems
- Conduct inspections, audits and risk assessments
- Manage incidents and investigations
- Ensure PPE compliance; coordinate SHE committees
- Ensure warehouse and retail safety compliance
- Manage emergency preparedness
- Ensure contractor onboarding, vetting and compliance management
- Monitor contractor safety files and permit-to-work systems
- Conduct contractor compliance audits
Risk Management
- Develop and maintain risk registers
- Conduct risk assessments
- Implement mitigation controls
- Monitor operational risks
- Manage business continuity planning
- Support insurance risk management
- Analyse risk trends
Quality & Environmental Management
- Maintain ISO systems
- Conduct audits
- Ensure environmental compliance
- Manage waste and spill control
- Drive quality improvements and corrective actions.
Financial and Budget Control
- Manage SHERQ budget
- Control expenditure
- Manage procurement
- Monitor costs
- Compile variance reports
- Ensure cost efficiency
People Management
- Lead and manage SHERQ team
- Conduct performance management
- Coaching and mentoring
- Manage discipline and performance issues
- Support skills development and employment equity initiatives
Training & Awareness
- Conduct induction training
- Maintain training records
- Ensure SHE reps are trained
- Promote SHERQ awareness and compliance training
Salary Bracket
Negotiable, depending on experience, qualification(s) and current / previous package
