Postion Summary:
SAEON requires a SHER Coordinator to provide support in implementing and maintaining the Health and Safety Management system within SAEON and ensure best practice Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) internal controls. Ensure SAEON remains compliant with safety and environmental legislation and regulations as well as other directives issued from time-to-time impacting workplace Health, Safety and the Environment.

- HEALTH, SAFETY, and ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM MAINTENANCE SUPPORT:• Support in implementing and maintaining the Health and Safety Management system
- • Leading Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA)
- Perform Job analysis to compile risks & hazards and document existing controls
- • Maintain all system documents and records as per management requirements2
- BEST PRACTICE OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY (OHS) INTERNAL CONTROL DESIGN AND ADHERENCE:• Articulate SAEON’s commitment to eliminating work-related illness and injury and ensuring continuous improvement and a safer workplace as required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act through training and awareness and crafting safe operating procedures
- • Provide support in implementing and maintaining the Health and Safety Management system within SAEON and ensure best practice Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) internal controls • Do regular internal inspections and audits to determine any opportunities for improvement, including, but not limited to, general inspections to test the internal SHE systems
- • Ensure that all annual, quarterly, monthly, and weekly checklists and inspections are completed and signed off by the relevant party that carried out the inspection• Conduct annual legal compliance self-audits• Coordinate Department of Labour audits and inspections
- • Prepare for any internal or external audits3
- SHER COMPLIANCE:• Ensure SAEON remains compliant with safety and environmental legislation and regulations as well as other directives issued from time to time impacting Workplace Health, Safety, and the Environment
- • Ensure appropriate processes by staff that include:• Ensure implementation of Health, Safety, and Risk Management policies, procedures, and standards of the NRF
- • Implement and apply risk management techniques to increase awareness, ownership, and management of risks
- • Compiling of Health, Safety, and Environmental Security Standards• Coordinate safety communication, first aid facilities, work permits (for temporary working areas and sites), etc
- • Facilitation of the Health and Safety Committee activities • Facilitation of Emergency and Fire Defense Controlling activities • Manage the procurement of safety equipment and PPE
- • Compilation of Health and Safety report• Determining staff training (Health and Safety related) needs
- prioritize and plan schedules according to budget 4
- REPORTING, ACCIDENT RECORDING AND INVESTIGATION:• Establish a reporting system to ensure effective reporting to management• Ensure that Safety, Health, Environmental, and Risk reports are submitted to management regularly
- • Provide information to Corporate as and when required (Risk Register, SHE Forum, etc
- )• Quarterly management reports
- / Monthly reports to MD
- • Investigate accidents and incident, ensure progressive statistical data5
- INSURANCE CLAIMS AND FLEET MANAGEMENT: • Coordinate risk reviews, insurance claims and maintenance projects and contract management
- • Manage fleet renewal• Plan routes in most efficient and effective way possible
- • Maintain service records of vehicle fleet that is up-to-date• Use service providers to do regular and preventative maintenance on vehicles• Maintain a register of valid driver’s licenses of eligible drivers of company vehicles• Ensure that transported goods have MSDS’s available
Minimum Qualification:
- Diploma / Advanced Certificate / NQF 6
Minimum Experience:
- NQF Level 6 Qualification Higher Diploma in Health and Safety/ Environmental Management or related field
Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience in Health, Safety, and Environmental Management system maintenance support
- 2-3 Years of Reporting, Accident Recording and Investigation
- 2-3 Years of Health and Safety policy development and implementation
- 2-3 Years of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) internal control design and adherence
- 1-2 Years of Insurance Claims and Fleet Management
Knowledge:
