About the position

A well-known international medical equipment company requires the above to be responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing instrumentation equipment used in industrial processes, laboratories, and other relevant settings. This role involves both on-site and off-site activities to ensure the timely and effective resolution of instrument-related issues.
Minimum requirements for the role:

  • A Technical diploma or certificate in Electronics or Electrical Engineering or relevant experience in a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience having worked as a Service Engineer in instrumentation repair and maintenance and with Cryogenic Freezers is preferred.
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment in both electrical and mechanical having worked in Electronic fault finding and repair.
  • Must be able to follow Electrical Schematics and block diagrams and have an understanding of mechanical devices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team as well as being familiar with relevant industry standards and regulations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing instrumentation equipment used in industrial processes, laboratories, and other relevant settings. This role involves both on-site and off-site activities to ensure the timely and effective resolution of instrument-related issues.
  • Ensuring the reliability and functionality of instruments that are integral to various industrial processes and scientific applications. Responsible for field and workshop repairs of instrumentation. The Service Engineer will working closely with the Service Manager with regard to scheduling of jobs to be done and will issue quotations for the repair of instrumentation once assessed, and liaise with the sales representative, Managers and customers
  • Conducting thorough analysis and diagnostic assessments of faulty instruments to identify issues.
  • Using specialised tools and equipment to troubleshoot and accurately pinpoint problems and providing reports to customers when requested.
  • Executing repairs on various types of instrumentation, including sensors, analysers, control systems, freezers, cryogenic freezers and other related devices.
  • Performing preventive maintenance to ensure the longevity and reliability of instruments.
  • Generating and performing field and workshop repairs and services through ongoing customer engagement and contact.
  • Maintaining detailed records of all repairs, replacements and maintenance activities.
  • Generating service reports and documenting procedures for future reference as well as quotations and negotiating of service contracts.
  • Procuring spare parts locally or internationally in accordance with established procedures and facilitating orders for consumable parts and spares for sale.
  • Monitoring stock usage, maintaining appropriate minimum stock levels and coordinating replenishment to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Ensuring that all stock transactions are accurately recorded in line with company procedures.
  • Participating in stock audits and promptly investigating and reporting variances.
  • Working closely with other Service Engineers, Technicians and cross-functional teams to address complex issues and collaborating with Product Development teams to provide feedback on instrument performance and reliability.
  • Providing training to customers on the correct use, maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation as well as offering technical support and guidance to clients to optimise instrument performance.
  • Ensuring that repaired instruments meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Salary package, including benefits, is highly negotiable depending on experience gained.
